I purchased the 18V DeWalt saw October 2020 with some initial hesitation. I have used it domestically as a third backup saw and handled it with kid leather gloves because of its size. The saw itself has performed beyond my expectations UNTIL the battery casing began to crack.
I was surprised that the retailer and manufacturer’s immediate response to my claim was ” it has been dropped” and the 3 year warranty won’t be honoured. As mentioned the saw has been handled carefully and apart from the cracks through the battery casing it appears as new with no sign of an impact that would cause such damage. A quick internet search showed that battery casing cracks are common, fueling an aftermarket of replacement casings. Having worked in retail for 30 years and 10 years in plastics manufacturing I’m disappointed in DeWalt’s ( Stanley Black and Decker) response and attitude. The problem indicates the battery casings aren’t of merchantable quality. Had it been dropped , not being able to survive a 1metre ( 3ft) drop test is very poor quality for an outdoor tool.
Whilst your reviews are upbeat and praise many saws, buyers need to be confident that they will last beyond the warranty period. Do your research. I don’t recommend DeWalt anymore and neither do my friends.

I am satisfied with the power, chain speed and battery life. Can you please identify why it was not mentioned? I also disagree with your pick of the Dewalt 20v-12”. Chain speed way too slow./ thank you .

I wouldn’t expect any less from you guys. Stihl also has a new farm and ranch battery saw there, the MSA 300 C, but they aren’t letting anyone try it. I’d also bet it will be more than double the cost of the DeWalt.

Just got to see it in person at GIE. It’s a beast! Clearly bigger than DeWalt’s other saws and putting out 4 HP/3100 watts. We’ll be getting one in for review (hopefully soon!).

The 677 is spec’d at over 3100 Watts and double the torque of a Stihl MS271 Farm Boss. That’s bonkers.

you are wrong. I started out with a cordless drill. now I can’t do without it. Then bought a cordless angle grinder. I would be lost without it. Just bought a cordless mini chain saw. Tried it today. unable to tell you if I am happy or not at this moment but will repost after a good trial

We agree with you 100%, David. Cheap has a negative connotation compared to value, budget, or inexpensive. The reason we use it is that it’s a term people use when they’re searching on Google and more popular than some of those better terms. Hopefully, our description of Hart’s chainsaw comes across in a positive way that helps folks understand it’s a higher quality product than what you might find at discount retailers. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
