DeWalt FlexVolt 60V Max 20-Inch Chainsaw Targets Farm and Ranch Class

We’ve been reviewing battery-powered chainsaws for years and the release of several 18-inch models left us wondering when we might see the first farm and ranch saw replacement. The DeWalt FlexVolt 60V Max 20-inch chainsaw is answering the call.

DeWalt FlexVolt 60V Max 20-Inch Chainsaw: The Big Deal

There’s no question that power is the same of the game when you’re pushing to greater bar lengths on any chainsaw. To get this model out to 20 inches, DeWalt is using the strongest brushless motor they’ve ever designed. In terms of actual power, DeWalt tells us the DCCS677 puts out up to 3100 watts.

We got to see what that power translates to at GIE in Louisville as the guru behind the saw, Nate, gave us a rundown. For our demo, he was cutting Ash in the 16-inch range. The saw’s brushless motor melted through each cut with impressive speed.

On video, we saw a previously filmed demonstration where this saw was able to cut more quickly than Stihl’s 50.2cc MS 271 Farm Boss.

These demos are certainly compelling and we’re genuinely excited about the performance the saw promises. We also have a saw on order and will be doing our own hands-on testing as soon as it comes in.

Additional Features

  • Pro-style dual bar studs
  • Agressive metal bucking spikes
  • Chain tensioner
  • Auto-oiler
  • Chain brake
  • Onboard wrench storage

DeWalt FlexVolt 60V Max 20-Inch Chainsaw Price

Look for the DeWalt DCCS677 in spring 2022 at your favorite DeWalt retailer. As a bare tool, the retail price is $349. There are a couple of kit options as well. With the 4.0Ah/12.0Ah battery, it’s $449 or you can get it with a 5.0Ah/15.0Ah pack for $499.

It’s worth noting that DeWalt is including a carrying case for the first time. It’s something we haven’t seen with most battery-powered chainsaws and it’s a helpful value-add.

If you’re new to the DeWalt FlexVolt system, the batteries run in both FlexVolt 60V Max and 20V Max tools. That’s why they have two Ah ratings. In this case, the larger battery runs as either 5.0Ah at 60V Max or 15Ah at 20V Max. Either way, they have the same capacity, it’s just a difference of how the tool uses those watt-hours.

I think that you should also mention that the DeWalt chainsaws use many nylon gears in their units and will not last too long.

I don’t own any battery chainsaw; jist a 2-cycle Farm Boss I bought in 1995. I’ve been itching to buy an 18-inch, 2500-watt battery chainsaw from Ego, Greenworks Pro, or Greenworks Commercial. But I’ve resisted, betting that a 20-incher would arrive by summer 2022. Glad I waited.
