Ryobi Updates Its 18V Trim Router With More Speed Options

Ryobi 18V Compact Router: The Big Deal
Ryobi’s last compact router, model P601, only had one fixed speed of 29,000 RPM. In contrast, the PCL424 compact router gives you more speed versatility by incorporating a variable speed dial. It allows settings from 20,000 RPM to 30,000 RPM. This can help you if you need to adjust your speed based on the project at hand. We are a bit surprised that Ryobi didn’t update the motor from brushed to brushless, though.
This model is also 20% more compact than the previous generation, weighing only 4 lbs. Like the older cordless trim router, it remains compact and one-handed capable.
Additionally, it features a micro-adjustment dial for depth control, with a quick-release lever for depth adjustment and removal of the fixed D-base. If you want to hook up a vacuum to reduce dust output, you’re in luck. The Ryobi 18V compact router includes a vacuum chute that accepts most standard vacuum hoses.

Ryobi 18V Compact Router Price
The Ryobi 18V Compact Router (PCL424) will retail for $99 for the bare tool starting in October 2022. There are also a couple of kit configurations. One includes a 2Ah battery and charger for $139, and another gives you the tool plus a 15-piece carbide router bit set for $163.97. As always, Ryobi backs your purchase with a 3-year warranty. Like all Ryobi products, this tool will be available exclusively at The Home Depot upon its release.
