What Kind of Performance are We Talking About?
Milwaukee dubs the M18 Fuel 1-Inch D-Handle High Torque Impact Wrench the “world’s most powerful cordless impact wrench.” We’ve seen some pretty powerful high-torque impact wrenches in our day, but with up to 2,000 ft-lbs (yes foot-pounds!) of torque that this tool is claiming, we think Milwaukee might be right.
But, it’s not just massive torque that will convince us to do away with pneumatics, we need a runtime to match. With the kitted HD12.0 battery, Milwaukee tells us the High-Torque Impact Wrench manages up to 200 1-1/4 inch bolts per charge. Plus, with the kitted rapid charger, you can run with two batteries without ever experiencing any downtime.
Other Features
The Milwaukee High-Torque impact wrench features a four-mode Drive Control feature that lets you match both power and speed to the application at hand.
And, if that level of customization wasn’t enough, you can use the Milwaukee One-Key app to really dial in the power of the tool with a repeatable torque setting. You can also use this feature to track the tool’s location, disable it remotely, and manage the impact wrench with the rest of your tool inventory.
The Milwaukee 2868-22HD comes with an adjustable and removable D-handle, an LED work light, and an integrated lanyard loop.
Coming Soon
If all this sounds great but doesn’t quite fit the particular needs of, say, a diesel mechanic, fret not. Milwaukee has announced they will launch the M18 Fuel 1-inch D-Handle Extended Anvil High-Torque Impact Wrench shortly as well.
This tool should be nearly identical to the standard version, but with a longer anvil. It also includes a Lug Nut mode that you can enable through the One-Key app. This mode prevents over-torquing lug nuts by automatically shutting off the tool within the 350–450 ft-lb range.
Pricing and Availability
The Milwaukee M18 Fuel High-Torque Impact Wrench will be available as a bare tool (2868-20). However, to get the most out of the tool, you’ll want to make sure you use the 12.0Ah battery included with the kit. You can pick up the kit, which comes with the tool, battery, charger, and bag for $1,299. The bare tool will run you $799.
Interestingly, this tool comes with a 2-year warranty instead of the typical 5-year warranty we’re used to seeing from Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee M18 Fuel 1-Inch D-Handle High Torque Impact Wrench will hit stores starting in August 2020.
