Makita XWT01 7/16″ Hex Impact Wrench

Makita 18V Li-ion 7/16" Hex Impact Wrench LXWT01 Preview

As more and more Lithium-ion tools are making their way into the automotive industry, Makita doesn’t want to let other industries get by without benefiting from cordless tools. In particular, the Makita XWT01 7/16″ hex impact wrench is a tool that expands the line nicely. If you want to compare it to a pneumatic or AC wrench, realize that the new impact wrench puts out a full 325 ft-lbs of torque.

That’s 3900 in-lbs for those who don’t feel like doing the conversion. On top of that, the tool uses 2,200 IPM (rotational impacts per minute) to generate its incredibly portable torque. The Makita XWT01 7/16″ hex impact wrench was designed specifically to address the needs of electric power and telephone utility companies. The tool even has industry-specific features like a steel ring for easy securing when up in the air and an oversized long trigger for use with insulated gloves.

Makita XWT01 7/16″ Hex Impact Wrench Features

With that level of power, it looks like the Makita XWT01 is an adequate, not to mention convenient, substitute for more traditional impact wrenches. In addition to the 2,200 IPMs, the Makita-built 2-pole motor delivers a top no-load speed of 1,900 RPM, with the aforementioned torque. The Makita LXWT01 7/16″ hex impact wrench was specifically designed with features for electrical and phone utility workers who spend a big portion of the day working with 7/16″ hydraulic impact wrenches. Much like the current hydraulic 7/16″ impact wrenches, the Makita XWT01 provides the contractor with the speed and power they need to drill and fasten into treated wood telephone poles without rotational torque.

As with all of Makita’s top-of-the-line impact tools, the proprietary hammer and anvil impact mechanism in the XWT01 is manufactured for long-term use, using high-quality steel and a heat hardening process to hit hard and maintain consistent performance over long term use.

Ergonomics and Weight

As you’d expect, the Makita XWT01 7/16″ hex impact wrench has an ergonomic grip and a large rocker trigger switch for easier operation. It also features a single integrated LED light to illuminate the work area. The design also features a jobsite-tested shock-absorbent handle to protect the battery housing for extra durability, and a quick-change 7/16″ hex chuck allows for fast bit changes. At 10-3/4″ long and 7.8 pounds, the XWT01 isn’t exactly compact or lightweight, but given the power, it’s a true bargain for those looking to cut the cord.

“We took our best-in-class 18-volt LXT high torque impact wrench and added features that power and phone utilities demand, including a 7/16″ Hex Quick-Change Chuck and an oversize ring for added convenience. The XWT01 is another weapon in the Makita LXT arsenal of 50+ Tools that help utility companies ‘cut the cord’ and move away from hydraulic tools.”

Power and Runtime

The new Makita XWT01 7/16″ hex impact wrench is, as you’d guess, powered by Makita’s 18V LXT Lithium-ion battery and uses the Rapid Optimum Charger which will quickly charge an 18V 3.0 amp-hour Li-ion battery in only 30 minutes. Makita’s claims their 18V Lithium-ion battery delivers 3X more cycles over their previous models – all of which translates into long-term reliability for this tool.

The Makita XWT01 7/16″ hex impact wrench kit includes the tool, two 18 volt 3.0Ah LXT Lithium-ion batteries, one Rapid Optimum Charger, a tool belt hook, and a contractor bag. Model XWT01Z includes the tool only.
