Also the tourque of the wormdrive is constantly pulling you off your line (when making longer rip cuts. The makita doesn’t do that which a little hard to get used to since we are all used to from the
Mag77. However once I do become used to it there’s no goin back brother!

Don’t forget during promotions you can get the makita kit with 4 5.0 batteries and double charger for $255 out the door. The batteries alone are worth it for that price but then it’s like you get a saw and double charger for free. The skil 7 1/4 cordless is crap didn’t even last a full day on the job while my makita which I have 7 5.0 batteries at my disposal usually lasts all day but if it doesn’t throw 2 freshies on and your drained batteries are charged in a half hour, almost impossible to outwork it.

Thanks for pointing that out. This article was originally written well before DeWalt released their 4.0/12.0Ah battery. We’ll get it updated.

While you can certainly pop a 12Ah (really a 4Ah at 60V) battery in there, DeWalt doesn’t currently sell the DCS577 with a 12Ah battery option. We weren’t talking about maximum potential but rather what you could expect from the referenced available kits.

With Makita, two 5.0 Ah packs will give you 180 watt-hours while 6.0 Ah packs will give you 216 watt-hours. Makita has the advantage on the high end here.”
Not true. You failed to mention the fact that Dewalt has a 12.0Ah FlexVolt battery which comes in at 240 watt-hours. DeWalt has the advantage on the high end here.

If I don’t like the result it’s obviously rigged.

I am tooled up with dewalt as well. But after using both battery saws on a commercial framing site, I truly felt like the Makita was lighter, better line of site, and more comfortable cutting. The wide dewalt body makes it a little hard to cut.

With that said, I’ve only owned one Makita tool, a 4 inch grinder (Makita grinders are legendary). I have over 3 dozen DEWALT platform tools ranging from the old 18v system, the 20v, and FLEXVOLT. I worked in commercial/industrial electrical field. With that said, I have both the FLEXVOLT rear handle saw and the Makita 36v. The DEWALT is a brute and the 9.0 batteries are high performers. However, the Makita 36v rear handle saw has much more advantage and value. I get more cuts, better handling, and finesse ergonomics with the Makita. The DEWALT never bogs down on me vs the Makita but the Makita still wins.

We also pre-filled the old run with sawdust so it would look more realistic… that or the cut is actually 1/4″ off from what you’re accusing us of running. We have high standards for what we report, never makeup results, and never rig tests. Our readers deserve better than that.
