We just bought a 15 year old house and had to have the master shower retiled. Why? The drain was higher than most of the floor. Even more unbelievable was that it had been this way for 15 years.

You can scrape thin grout with a stout razor/scraper. For the actual grout, you can remove it with a grout removal tool—they also make an accessory that fits into multi-tools and reciprocating saws for more aggressive use.

Wow! these caulking jobs are a real mess. I am a master caulker myself and some times what I see is terrible. An interesting read all the same a very good write up.

As a painter and remodeler i wish I’d taken pictures of some of the jobs I’ve seen. It never fails to amaze me how bad some people can be with caulk. Although I have had to fill in some massive gaps on shoe mould thanks to horrible flooring guys.
