At the 2011 World of Concrete (WoC) show this year, Makita unleashed a new hard hitting demolition hammer that uses less weight to accomplish more. The demo hammer, which accepts SDS-Max bits, weighs only 11.1 lbs. and is ideally suited for horizontal work and jobs where you just don’t want to lift a heavier hammer off the ground.

The new tool comes with an Electronic Speed Control that automatically applies additional power to the motor to maintain speed under load to complete the most challenging jobs. It also features a soft start motor to suppress start-up reaction and current draw for more control and better accuracy. As expected, the HM0870C has a variable speed control dial (mounted on the bottom left side of the D-handle) that enables users to match the speed to the application – allowing for greater versatility.

The Makita HM0870C demo hammer has a nice rubberized grip that extends all around the outside of the D-handle and onto the top where you might apply your hands for more control during a vertical drilling application. It also comes with a side-mounted handle for precise placement and greater control over horizontal and vertical use on tough concrete and when you need precise placement of the bit. Internally, Makita built in field core interlocking steel laminations, a dual ball bearing armature, and large surface commutator, resulting in an efficient transfer of energy within the tool for greater power. An LED service light notifies the user when the brushes need to be replaced and the LED power indicator also serves to signal a switch failure or cord damage. The tool has Makita’s extended life brushes which are slightly longer for accomplishing more work between service intervals and achieving less downtime.
The tool comes with a side handle, bit grease, cleaning cloth, and a blow mold tool case.
