Metabo HPT (formerly Hitachi Power Tools) cordless brushless finish nailers include the NT1850DESM 18-gauge 2-inch cordless brad nailer, the NT1865DMSM 16-gauge 2-1/2-inch cordless straight finish nailer, and the NT1865DMASM 15-gauge 2-1/2-inch cordless angled finish nailer.
All of the Metabo HPT cordless brushless finish nailers in this series are powered by a 3.0Ah lithium-ion battery which is compatible with all 18V Metabo HPT tools and features their Multiplex Protection Circuit to prevent over-load, over-charge and over-discharge. The charger (model UC18YFSL) cools the battery during the charging cycle while a red light indicates the charging stage.
Each tool also has an on-tool battery charge indicator and tool-free depth of drive dial. Additionally, a selective actuation switch lets the user select between sequential mode or bump fire mode. A tool-free nose allows the user to extract jammed nails. Other notable features include an integrated pivoting belt hook that can be adjusted to fit on either side of the nailer (except on NT1865DMASM), a no-mar nose cap, a built-in LED work light, soft-grip handles, automatic power shut off after 30 minutes of inactivity, and a side-lock switch to prevent accidental firing.

Our Take
Metabo HPT may have come a little late to the cordless nailers game. Apparently, they utilized all they do well with pneumatic nailers and brought that to bear on their battery-powered line.
Fortunately, innovation abounds. As with tools like the Milwaukee 18-gauge brad nailer, Metabo HPT managed to find a way to eliminate the delay that we find in most cordless nailers and allow you to bump fire at a reasonable rate. It works around the foundation of compressed air that will have to be refilled but should run for tens of thousands of shots before that refill is needed. While much of the technology is a proprietary secret, I can tell you that when I tried these nailers out I was extremely impressed.
Thanks to the technology, we’re seeing a very high number of shots on one 3.0 amp-hour battery compared to other nailers currently on the market. So far, so good.
Finally, they exists in Japan for a while…
