The Greenworks 24V Cordless Circular Saw Targets High-Performance Value For Homeowners
The Greenworks 24V cordless circular saw is next up in our deep dive into the emerging line of 24V power tools. As a core tool, this 7 1/4-inch circular saw helps set the tone for the type of person the entire system is a good fit for.
Greenworks 24V Cordless Circular Saw Performance
While this saw isn’t the most powerful one we’ve ever had our hands on, it’s not hanging out with the cellar-dwellers, either. The brushless motor drives the blade at 4500 RPM. The trick is to let the motor keep those RPMs up and you’ll be able to cut material all the way to the saw’s 2 1/2-inch maximum cutting depth.
When you’re making those deeper cuts, you can certainly tell the difference in power compared to Pro-grade saws. On the other hand, it cuts well compared to saws in the Prosumer class and is a nice step up from pure DIY models. It also tracks your cutline very well.
The stock 24T blade has a thin kerf and does alright for most of your cuts. If you use your circular saw regularly, you’ll benefit from upgrading to a premium blade such as one from Diablo or Makita’s Max Efficiency.
The saw’s electric brake is impressively fast, even by professional standards. When you take your finger off of the trigger at the end of a cut, there’s not even close enough time to set the saw down before the blade’s movement stops.
Greenworks 24V Cordless Circular Saw Design Notes
Ergonomics
The saw features a blade-right design and a stamped steel shoe with two cutting guide notches in the front. You’ll need to rely on those notches considering the sightline to the blade is a challenge to see around the front handle.
The main grip is a bit fuller in hand than most 7 1/4-inch circular saws we use but no one on our team felt it had a negative effect on our ability to cut accurately and comfortably.
The front handle’s size and width are excellent, filling your hand and offering excellent control.
This Greenworks circular saw is a lightweight compared to today’s ultra-high-performing beasts. It weighs 7.44 pounds as a bare tool and is a little under 9 pounds with a 4.0Ah battery.
Adjustments
As with most modern circular saws, this saw uses tool-free mechanisms for making blade height and bevel adjustments on the fly. Just flip either movement’s adjustment lever, make the shift, and push the lever back to lock it down.
One thing to note is that the cut depth guide is in millimeters as opposed to inches, so just be aware of that.
Blade Changes
Blade changes on this circular saw are pretty standard. Press down on the blade lock, rotate the blade until you feel the lock fall in place, then use the included hex key to loosen the arbor bold. You may also use a 1/2-inch socket or wrench if that’s easier for you.
Dust Port
Greenworks includes a vacuum port preinstalled on the saw. If you’re going to use a vac, keep it on there. If not, use a Phillips head screwdriver and remove it so the dust deflects down and away from you instead of straight back at you.
Additional Features
- Includes a rip fence
- LED light
- Integrated dust blower
- On-board tool storage
- Metal blade cover
- Plastic blade guard
