I have tried three of these and the average decibels is 98 at three feet away. There is a guy on YouTube that does a review and he has a decibel reading of 71, so, either that is a faulty decibel reader or he got a very good Metabo or he figured out a way to put a muffler on this thing to make it quieter. You have to wear ear protection around this compressor. The average time to get to 200 PSI for these three was 2:37. Surely, Metabo has to address the loudness of this air compressor. Why did I get three? To see if I could find one that was as quiet as 71 decibels but no luck. The third one I got was made in December 2020 but the tank had some pitting in the metal which was painted over. That concerned me because the first two did not have any pitting anywhere on the tanks. I wish Metabo would make these in Japan and get out of China! If fact, I wish all these companies in Japan and the USA would get out of China! I don’t know the testing process these companies use for the decibels but it sure would be nice if they would put out true numbers. Metabo states this in the specs of his air compressor – Decibel Rating (Decibels) – 79. I would LOVE to find one that runs at 79 decibels! Even your test showed it at 93 decibels. So, I don’t know if the first ones that Metabo made were quieter so they could prove their numbers but the ones I have got are just too loud, obviously the one you guys had was also too loud. That’s my two negatives on this air compressor, made in China and it’s too loud!

Larger pump at half the rpm’s will last a lot longer than the high rpm units as well produces less heat, the pumps enemy.
On larger 60-80 gal. with motor on top like 5 hp and two stage is what I wanted and found used in great shape. Here no mention about industrial grade compressors which on the top of the list is the Saylor Beall compressors especially the pressure lubed pump versions over any other major brands of spash lubricated compressors. Old trusted names (Quincy, DeVilbiss, Ingersol Rand are now imported from China rubbish vs old. Almost forgot a Kellog American compressor pump. Saylor Beall having pressure lubed plus low oil float shutdown protection both well worth having as options. Baldor motors vs Leeson, back 10 years ago 5 Hp Baldor ebay I won, seller tells me “your Leeson will ship soon”. Nope the Leeson draws higher amperage and was less efficient that the Baldor. Went from a new “takeoff motor” to a brand new delivered in box Baldor that runs like a champ as well cooler running on my compressor. Retired IBEW wireman 42 years commercial, mostly industrial.
Twin tank “Wheel Barrel” type a A.L. or E.L. (?) Smith & Sons 1 1/2 Hp compressor with cast iron vertical cylinder pump that has been trouble free 24 years……~~=o&o>……..

I’d like to see an OEM create a 2.0+ CFM cordless.
