Milwaukee Redlithium USB Stick Light Has A Multitude of Uses

Working in tight spaces is challenging enough without fighting with your light source. Some can’t direct the light where you need it, some are too bright, and others can’t fit into the space in the first place. These are a few of the pain points Milwaukee targeted with the Redlithium USB Stick Light and we had the opportunity to try it out for ourselves.

Using the Milwaukee Redlithium USB Stick Light

Output and Modes

Milwaukee Redlithium USB Stick Light Review

The Milwaukee 2128 has a somewhat unusual design, but it’s purpose-built for a variety of inspection and assessment tasks. It’s capable of putting out up to 550 lumens and each of its four modes has high and low output modes.

Spotlight

The main light bars are on opposite sides of one another. You can cycle between the two sides or use both at once. The fourth mode is a single beam on the top edge. Press the round power button to turn the light on, the middle button to cycle through modes, and the top button to switch between high and low output.

Controls

As usual, Milwaukee goes with its TrueView high-definition output. If you’re not familiar with TrueView, it’s slightly on the warm side and makes colors proper color identification easier.

The head pivots 220°. It doesn’t twist, though. That’s okay because your mounting options takes care of it. Standing on its base, you can turn the light in any direction. The same goes for using the magnet in the base. The integrated metal hook also rotates 360°, so there’s not a situation where you can’t turn the light where you need it.

Magnet and Hook

When it comes to runtime, expect about 2 hours with the light on high output.

Charging

Milwaukee Redlithium USB Stick Light Charging Dock

Like other Milwaukee Redlithium USB lights, there’s an onboard charging port. Newer models such as the Stick Light use a USB-C connection and Milwaukee includes a cord in case you don’t have one.

What’s very different is the optional charging dock. You can magnetically connect the light directly to it for charging or put the battery in a slot specifically for it. More significantly, you can be charging a spare battery and the light on the same unit, ensuring you can start the day with two fully-charged batteries.

The dock can sit on a flat surface, install using the keyholes on the back, or stick to a ferrous surface with the magnets built into the back. That’s particularly helpful in automotive shops where the majority of tool storage is steel boxes.

Additional Highlights

  • Chemical-resistant to common jobsite and shop chemicals
  • Impact rated up to 6 feet
  • IP54 ingress rating against dust and water
  • Battery level indicator built into the power button

Milwaukee Redlithium USB Stick Light Price

You can get the Milwaukee 2128 with or without the charging dock. Either way, you get a battery and charging cord. Without the charging dock (2128-21), it’s $99.99. The kit with the charging dock (2128-22) is $159.99.

Milwaukee backs the light with a limited lifetime warranty (tool only).

The Bottom Line

Milwaukee designed the Redlithium USB Stick Light to operate in tight spaces and it’s amazing in that role. Its ability to get light where you need it along with output levels that are appropriate for close-up work make it a must-have for automotive, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, VDV, and many other trades.

Metabo HPT 10,000-Lumen Work Light Delivers Incredible Output And Durability

Whether you’re working in unlit spaces or during the shorter days of winter, having a quality work light is essential. We’ve been using the Metabo HPT 18V 10,000-Lumen LED Work Light and there’s a ton to talk about. Take a closer look and see if it’s a good fit for your jobsite.

Metabo HPT 10,000 Lumen Work Light Performance

10,000 Lumens

First of all, this light produces a ton of output—10,000 lumens worth on the high end using 216 LED chips. As cordless work lights go, that’s about as bright as you can hope for.

Metabo HPT 18V MultiVolt 10000-Lumen LED Work Light Review

You don’t always need that much light and thankfully, Metabo HPT put more than just a high, medium, and low on this one. The power button on the back doubles as the output dial with 15 settings to dial in the amount of light you need. It can dial all the way back to 1000 lumens, meaning you don’t necessarily need to carry as many lights to cover different working distances.

The dial doesn’t have stops at the top or bottom of the range. When you hit either one, the light blinks to let you know you can go no further.

The throw is broad and lights up a large area at full brightness. It’s also a very clean, neutral light, showing off colors exactly as they are. Our friend, Gregory Mills might even be impressed enough to use it on some of the works over at the Polk Museum of Art.

Runtime

The runtime you get depends on the battery you use. It’s an 18V product, so you can use either Metabo HPT 18V or MultiVolt batteries for power. Here’s an idea of what you can expect for runtime:

10,000 Lumens

  • 18V 3.0Ah: 36 minutes
  • 18V 5.0Ah: 1 hour, 6 minutes
  • MultiVolt 8.0Ah: 1 hour, 48 minutes

1,000 Lumens

  • 18V 3.0Ah: 5 hours, 30 minutes
  • 18V 5.0Ah: 9 hours
  • MultiVolt 8.0Ah: 14 hours, 30 minutes
AC cord connection

If you have access to power, this is a hybrid light, so you can also run indefinitely if you like. The connection uses a snap lock design, so you need to keep the cord that comes in the box handy. The cord is a little over 10 feet long, letting you avoid an extension cord in some cases.

Metabo HPT 10,000 Lumen Work Light Design Notes

Size and Weight

Metabo HPT 18V MultiVolt 10000-Lumen LED Work Light Review

For its output, the footprint of this light is smaller than you might expect. It’s 12 1/4 inches at its widest point near the base and 12 5/8 inches from top to bottom. With the foot in, it’s 5 3/4 inches deep with the majority of that as battery housing in the center.

It’s 9.0 pounds without the AC cord or a battery. That may seem heavy for a work light, but when you’re pushing 10,000 lumens on the top end, you need heat sinks to keep the temps down near the LED chips. LEDs do run at lower temperatures than halogen bulbs. However, this kind of output gets pretty toasty, even with LEDs.

Works When Others Can’t

Battery Housing

Thanks to the AC connection and a battery housing that includes a gasket, the Metabo HPT 10,000-lumen work light earns an IP56 rating. With that kind of protection, this light can work in conditions that others can’t.

Bonus Charging Port

USB Charging Port

We live in a world where we’re constantly connected and in need of charging options. There’s a USB-A port on the back of the light you can use to charge your phone or tablet. Just keep in mind that it will reduce your runtime when you’re using a battery for power.

Mounting

Metabo HPT 18V MultiVolt 10000-Lumen LED Work Light Review

The base clicks into multiple positions and the battery housing can even let you point the light straight up. If you’re using the light at floor level, you can get light anywhere you need it.

From there, mounting is a bit different than most light. Metabo HPT provides two holes on the outsides of the base stand along with a 5/8-inch tripod mount in the center of it. Most of the time, the tripod threads are directly below the light so it can balance the weight. With this design, the weight sticks out from the mounting point. That’s one reason why there are no 1/4-inch threads.

In the box, there’s a 5/8-inch adapter. If you’re using a tripod with threads less than 20mm long, pop the adapter on it before mounting the light to make sure it stays put.

Additional Highlights

  • 5-bar LED battery level indicator on the back
  • Top carry handle

Metabo HPT 10,000 Lumen Work Light Price

The Metabo HPT 10,000 Lumen Work Light retails for $239 for the bare tool. There are no kit options available at the time of writing. Metabo HPT backs your purchase with a 2-year warranty.

Makita has the only real competition for Metabo HPT with its DML809. Considering it runs $284 as a bare tool, Metabo HPT’s price is pretty attractive.

The Bottom Line

If you need a bright work light, Metabo HPT’s hybrid 18V 10,000-lumen LED work light is the best we’ve seen so far. Its output is strong with a super-clean throw. With 15 output settings and an IP56 rating, it’s also highly versatile and appropriate in a wide range of working distances and environments.

Ridgid Upgrades 18V Cordless LED Spotlight With Higher Output

Ridgid is no stranger to jobsite lighting, offering a variety of solutions with an assortment of brightness settings. Adding to that list is the Ridgid 18V Cordless LED Spotlight. While it’s reminiscent of Ridgid’s original Light Cannon, it has some significant changes to the output.

Ridgid 18V LED Spotlight: The Big Deal

Ridgid 18V Cordless LED Spotlight

This lighting solution provides up to 3,200 lumens using seven 5-watt LEDs. Compared to the Light Cannon from several years back, that’s 700 lumens more. Since it’s a spotlight, that means we’re going for distance over area coverage and this one reaches out 670 yards (2,010 feet).

For control, there are three brightness settings— high (3200 lumens), medium (2000 lumens), and low (1000 lumens). When you turn the spotlight on, it starts on the high setting. From there, you can cycle to medium or low by pressing the power button until you reach the setting you’re aiming for.

To turn the power off without toggling through each brightness mode, you simply hold the power button for two seconds from any setting. Holding the power button for two seconds while the light off automatically switches it to the low setting to avoid toggling through the brighter modes.

As far as the runtime is concerned, expect to achieve up to 8.5 hours of runtime per charge using a 6.0Ah Max Output battery. That’s on low, of course.

The head pivots 190° so you can adjust the light to the perfect angle when you’re setting it down or connecting the light to a tripod.

Additional Features

  • Tripod and belt hook compatible (both sold separately)
  • Low voltage indicator: light flashes three times to indicate low battery
  • Overheating protection dims or turns the light off if the temperature is too high
  • Weighs 2.1 pounds bare

Ridgid 18V LED Spotlight Price

This spotlight retails for $99. Like all Ridgid tools, it’s sold exclusively at The Home Depot. Ridgid backs your purchase with a 3-year warranty.

Specifications

  • Model: Ridgid R8699B
  • Power Source: Ridgid 18V battery
  • Output: 1000/2000/3200 lumens

Metabo HPT Expands Its Lighting Lineup With an 18V LED Work Light

As we’re heading into the winter months, the sun doesn’t like to do us any favors by staying out late. That’s when we turn to other light sources to help our teams stay productive. Metabo HPT’s lineup of lighting solutions grows with the addition of the 18V LED Work Light. Find out how its many brightness settings could be exactly what your team needs to keep up with demands.

Metabo HPT 18V Work Light: The Big Deal

The UB18DBQ4 work light features a whopping 30 brightness settings, ranging from 350 lumens to 2,000 lumens. This provides you with more brightness settings than any other Metabo HPT light. While Metabo HPT does have a 10,000-lumen work light with 15 brightness settings, this one is less than half the price and will still provide a decent amount of light.

On the lowest light setting, you can expect to achieve up to 32 hours of runtime on a charge using an 18V/36V MultiVolt Lithium Ion 5.0/2.5Ah battery. This number goes down to 5 hours of runtime when on its brightest light setting.

The UB18DBQ4 work light features 360° adjustability and includes an integrated freestanding base. Additionally, you have to option to install it on a tripod (sold separately) using the 5/8-inch threaded screw hole. You can also hang it up using the included hanging hook.

Metabo HPT emphasized a compact and lightweight design when making this work light. It weighs just 2.6 pounds bare, making it easy to carry from one area to another while on the job.

Additional Features

  • Battery charge indicator
  • IP54 rated— resistant against water and dust

Milwaukee’s USB Neck Light Shines Hands-Free On The Job

When you need concentrated light on the job, you generally only have a few options. Solutions like flashlights, headlamps, and work lights all work great, but they’re not for everyone. That’s where the Milwaukee Neck Light comes in. Find out how this tool provides hands-free light where you need it most.

Milwaukee Neck Light: The Big Deal

Milwaukee RedLithium USB Neck Light

This light sits around your neck, giving you control over the direction it shines. There are two bulbs—one on each side—that present a focused area of light onto wherever you aim them. You can turn each light head vertically up to 130° to shine at the perfect angle. Since they pivot independently, you can have them work together or cover a broader area by setting them to different angles.

There are two brightness settings on the Milwaukee neck light. On High, it achieves 400 lumens, and on Low, it has an output of 250 lumens. Compared to what you might see from other brands, this light output is on the high end of other neck lights on the market. In fact, Milwaukee tells us this neck light is 45% brighter light than the competition.

When it comes to runtime, you can expect over 8 hours of runtime on Low and 2.5 hours on high.

Additionally, the neckband features sweat resistance, which comes in handy if you’re wearing it for long periods in the shop. It also features resistance to many harsh chemicals found in automotive shops and holds an IP54 rating against dust and water. To top it off, the Milwaukee neck light has a drop rating of up to 6 feet.

Additional Features

  • Charges in two hours
  • Press-and-hold power button
  • Power button indicates battery charge status

Milwaukee Neck Light Price

The Milwaukee 2117-21 retails for $99 and includes a RedLithium USB 3.0 battery and USB-C charging cable. You can find it at your favorite Milwaukee retailer. Milwaukee backs it with a limited lifetime warranty.

Final Thoughts

There are certainly people out there who prefer a more traditional headlamp to a neck light. That’s the whole point, though—it’s often about preference. Now, Milwaukee fans who don’t want a strap on their heads can take advantage of the RedLithium USB system with a light designed for the way they want to work. The fact that it has a higher output than competing models is just one more reason to pull the trigger.

Ridgid’s 18V Hybrid Folding Panel Light Keeps You Working When The Sun Calls It A Night

Many contractors and tradesmen work in dark places like attics or crawlspaces. Sometimes, even outdoor construction comes to a halt once the sun sets for the night, regardless of how much work is left. In these cases, you need dependable light that will last until the job is done. That’s what the latest Ridgid 18V folding panel light aims to provide.

To see Clint’s review of the previous Ridgid 18V folding panel light, click “Next Page” below!

Ridgid 18V Hybrid Folding Panel Light: The Big Deal

The Ridgid R8698B is the brand’s brightest light to date. 65 LED chips work in unison to achieve an output of up to 3,500 lumens of clear white light. Ridgid tells us the color temperature is specifically tuned to provide visibility of fine details and accurate colors, unlike many yellow-tinted lights.

There are three fully-adjustable rotation options to achieve the best area lighting for the situation you’re in. The outside panels pivot 270° up and down, 225° in and out (open and close), and the base pivots 115° up and down.

Three brightness settings offer control over the light output. You can expect to get up to 14 hours of runtime on the lowest setting using an 18V 6.0Ah Max Output battery.

This light is also hybrid, so you can plug in an extension cord if you have convenient power access and don’t want to worry about a battery.

Metabo HPT 18V Cordless LED Work Light Brightens Up Dark Days And Nights

With looming construction deadlines, many contractors need to work as long as they can. Whether that’s extending the long days of summer, pushing deeper through the short days of a northern winter, or working where the sun doesn’t shine, a good work light can be your best friend. That’s where the Metabo HPT 18V cordless LED work light comes in. Check out the details and discover if its greater brightness versatility can help your crew’s productivity.

Metabo HPT 18V Cordless LED Work Light: The Big Deal

Metabo HPT tells us that this light is bright enough to light up any size room. With fifteen brightness settings from 700 to 4,000 lumens, you should be able to find a brightness level that fits your needs. Compared to most cordless work lights, having so many levels to work with is an unusual luxury.

When it comes to runtime, expect up to 20 hours at 700 lumens or 3 hours at 4000 lumens with a 5.0Ah battery. Thanks to a USB port on the top of the light, you can use the battery to charge your mobile devices, too.

As for jobsite suitability, the light holds an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance and a gasket surrounding the battery compartment ensures your battery doesn’t get wet.

Metabo HPT designed this light with a keyhole slot that enables you to mount it in multiple fashions. Further, the light is tripod compatible, with a 5/8-inch threaded screw hole. Of course, It’s also free-standing and happy to light up your life from ground level.

At 4.2 pounds without a battery, this light weighs less than some of the other jobsite work lights on the market.

EGO 56V Cordless Area Light Illuminates Your Life With Unique Design

The EGO 56V cordless area light launches the popular lawn care brand into the lighting sector for the first time. This isn’t some dinky flashlight, though. EGO came out hitting on all cylinders with a ton of output and a design that’s different from what we’ve seen before.

Pros

  • Tons of light output
  • Diffused lenses soften the light
  • Adjustable panels offer versatile light direction
  • Long runtime compared to most cordless LED lights
  • Cycles through three panel on/off configurations
  • Multiple mounting options
  • Onboard USB port

Cons

  • Heavy for its size
  • No hybrid AC connection

Using The EGO 56V Cordless Area Light

Output

With up to 10,000 lumens of LED light, EGO is hitting the ground running. We set the light up in our shop, which is about 1700 square feet, and it absolutely filled the area with light in its brightest setting.

This light has five normal brightness settings with + and – buttons to adjust it. There’s also a Boost mode which temporarily jumps the lumens up to 10,000 lumens for roughly an hour. You might get more or less time depending on the ambient temperature. Once that hour-ish is up, it kicks back into mode 5 from there.

Controls

Here’s the output in each mode:

  • 600 lumens
  • 1,600 lumens
  • 3,200 lumens
  • 4,800 lumens
  • 6,400 lumens
  • 10,000 lumens (Boost mode)

You can also cycle some of the lights off. All four panels light up when you hit the power button. Press the mode button and cycle to just the top three panels and again to light just the top center panel.

Light Quality

EGO 56V Cordless Area Light LT1000 Review

The LEDs are dialed in to produce 4500K natural white light, which is something we prefer to a warmer or cooler color. Whether you’re lighting up your latest project or your backyard party, colors appear the way they’re supposed to.

The light incorporates diffuser lenses to soften the output. While they limit the throw distance some, it makes it much easier on your eyes compared to the harshness of lights with ultra-clear lenses.

Runtime

Expect more than 35 hours of continuous runtime on low with a 5.0Ah battery. Here’s the full runtime breakdown based on several battery options:

2.5Ah 5.0Ah10.0Ah
Level 118 hours36 hours72 hours
Level 28 hours16 hours32 hours
Level 34 hours8 hours16 hours
Level 42.5 hours5 hours10 hours
Level 52 hours4 hours8 hours

We tested using a 5.0Ah battery in Boost mode and got a total of 2 hours and 24 minutes. With our ambient temperature at 75° F and plenty of airflow keeping it cool, it stayed in Boost for well over an hour.

Size and Weight

EGO 56V Cordless Area Light LT1000 Review

At full spread, the light stands just short of 18 inches and it’s 21 inches wide.

Its weight is on the beefy side. Bare, it weighs 9.6 pounds, and the 5.0Ah battery we used pulls it up to 14.5 pounds.

Panel Adjustments

Panel Adjustments

There are four total panels and the orientation is worth noting. Facing the same direction, there’s one bottom panel attached to three panels above it.

Pivot points on each panel connection give you the option to collapse them in a way that protects the panels during transport, flip them to direct light exactly where you want it, or even create 360° lighting.

Positioning the light panels is a cinch. Start by loosening the tensioner knob on the top handle and adjust the panels where you need them. Once they’re in position, tighten the knob and you’re good to go.

The panels also have the ability to fold back into a triangular orientation to give you the 360° illumination we mentioned before. The cool thing is that you get the benefits of a dedicated work light as well as a capable area light.

Mounting Options

Mounting options

EGO includes a few helpful mounting points on this light. A set of retractable steel rafter hooks let you hang it on 2x material or cable. There are also 1/4-inch and 5/8-inch threaded tripod mounting points in the base that let you gain some elevation and greater visibility.

Additional Highlights

  • 1.5-amp USB A-Port lets you charge your devices when the light is in use
  • Compatible with all EGO 56V batteries

EGO 56V Cordless Area Light Price

The EGO 56V Cordless Area Light retails at Lowe’s for $149.00 as a bare tool and carries EGO’s standard 5-year limited warranty.

The Bottom Line

As its first entry into the lighting category, EGO’s design team did a nice job making the 56V cordless area light extremely useful. From a wide range of brightness settings to the versatility of its panel positions, it’s one more piece that makes EGO’s 56V system a top choice for homeowners.
