Klein Compact Laser Distance Measure Offers Simple Operation And Affordable Price
The Klein compact laser distance measure (93LDM100C) has quite a few differences when compared to the discontinued 93LDM65 model and the laser measure built into the NCVT-6 voltage tester. Is simpler better? Let’s take a look.
Using the Klein Compact Laser Distance Measure
Range
The red class 2 laser splits the difference between most entry-level and mid-range laser measures and reads from 2 inches up to 100 feet. Considering Klein’s other options, the NCVT-6 voltage tester reaches up to 66 feet and the 93LDM65 hit 98 feet.
Laser Accuracy
The Kelin 93LDM100C is really handy for taking quick measurements on the fly. It’s accurate to within 1/16-inch inside 30 feet and 1/8-inch all the way out to 100 feet. While there are laser measures with higher accuracy, it’s tough to complain about 1/8-inch accuracy for the kind of work most of us use these for.
Measurement Memory
This unit automatically saves the last two measurements on the LCD display screen so you quickly compare past measurements. Some models may store 10 measurements while more advanced models can store hundreds and even use Bluetooth to transmit them. However, when you keep in mind the design intent to simplify the laser’s use, we’re not disappointed.
Single Button Control
This latest model has a single multi-function button to make adjustments and toggle between settings. Press and hold to turn the unit on. Press once to get a continuous measurement reading and press again to save it. Repeat the process to get second and third measurements. Once you have three measurements on the screen, any new ones will kick the oldest off and replace it.
To change settings, press and hold for about a second and the unit settings come up. Press again to cycle through feet and inches, inches, and metric units.
Press the button two times and you can cycle between measuring from the top of the housing and the base.
There’s an optional sound you can turn on to confirm button presses. You get to that by pressing the button three times.
Press and hold the button for about 3 seconds and the unit shuts down. Any measurements that were on the screen will not be there when you turn it back on. Alternatively, it automatically shuts down after 3 minutes of inactivity.
Size and Weight
At just 1 3/16 inches wide and 4 5/8 inches long, Klein got the name right in calling it a compact laser measure. It only weighs 2.3 ounces with batteries. With its built-in belt clip, it’s easy to store on your belt or in your pocket, and it won’t take up much space in your tool bag.
Additional Features

- Lanyard anchor (lanyard sold separately)

Klein Compact Laser Distance Measure Price
The Klein 93LDM100C retails for $34.97 and comes with a 2-year limited warranty. As laser measures go, that’s pretty inexpensive.
The Bottom Line
Sometimes less is more and we really like the simplicity of Klein’s compact laser measure. It doesn’t have the complex functions, Bluetooth connection, or rechargeable battery that some do and that can be a relief when all you want is to take a quick measurement. If you’re looking for a laser measure with a simple interface with a low price tag, we highly recommend you consider Klein.
