reenworks OptimusMC Trailer

Greenworks Commercial designed the OptimusMC to be a one-stop charging port for all of your lawn care tools. It’s essentially a battery-powered trailer featuring a 26kW battery that runs power throughout the trailer.

This 20-foot trailer has enough room to fit 3 Greenworks OptimusZ zero-turn mowers and charges them while you store them or while in transit.

It also has 18 temperature-controlled battery ports that charge handheld batteries at up to 10A each. Additionally, you have four 20A 120V AC power outlets throughout the trailer.

Charger

In total, you can expect to charge:

  • 25+ battery-powered tools
  • Up to 36 handheld batteries
  • Up to 3 full-size Greenworks ride-on mowers

To charge the trailer, simply plug it into any electric vehicle charging station. The OptimusMC accepts Level 1 or Level 2 EV charging. You have the option for additional 3000W roof-mounted solar panels to keep the battery topped up as well.

Accessibility And Security

You and your crew can enter the OptimusMC using a keyless entry system, featuring smart electronic locks. You can also set personalized key codes on the Greenworks Fleet Connect app.

As you can expect, Greenworks Commercial wanted to employ security measures to keep your tools and trailer safe from wandering eyes. The trailer features a GPS connection that gives managers full visibility of their crew with real-time metrics via the Greenworks Fleet Connect app.

It also uses Green Shield theft protection, a security system with an HD camera, and exterior deterrent lights to keep your tools and equipment safe.

Greenworks Commercial OptimusMC Price

This trailer was just announced at Equip Expo 2022, with an expected release date in late 2023. As of the time of writing, there is no official price listed, but keep an eye out for an update closer to the official release.

Leatherman’s Maintenance Kit Will Leave Your Multi-Tool Shining Like New

All tools require maintenance and cleaning to work their best, especially when they’re designed to last a long time. Multi-tools can be tricky, though. They have more moving parts and crevices than other hand tools. We wanted to know if the Leatherman Tool Maintenance Kit has what it takes to master long-term multi-tool ownership.

Leatherman Tool Maintenance Kit Accessories

Full Kit

Leatherman is looking to provide an all-encompassing way to take care of your multi-tool to help it stand the test of time, even with heavy use. This maintenance kit provides you with everything you need to clean, oil, and store your Leatherman multi-tool after you use it.

It comes with the following accessories to aid with the maintenance of your tool:

  • (1) microfiber cleaning cloth
  • (1) silicone cleaning mat
  • (1) double-sided metal cleaning pick
  • (4) cleaning swabs
  • (1) cleaning brush
  • (1) vial of Leatherman multi-purpose tool lubricant
  • (1) blade sharpener

All of these accessories come inside a Leatherman branded soft carrying case. It has pockets for each accessory, as well as room to spare if you want to store your multi-tool.

Leatherman Blade Sharpener

Leatherman Knife Sharpener

One highlight of this tool maintenance kit is the Leatherman blade sharpener, which you can also buy on its own. To create this sharpener, Leatherman collaborated with Work Sharp, a private, family-owned Oregon-based manufacturing company. They have a rich history and their Ken Onion edition sharpener is one we still use on our knives.

It features a carbide sharpener, a ceramic hone, and a diamond-coated sharpening rod for serrated edges, as well as a lanyard loop.

The carbide sharpener also includes a switch at the top that adjusts the amount of material you’re removing from the blade. For light sharpening applications, slide the red switch on the top of the sharpener to the right. For heavier jobs, like a chipped blade, slide the switch to the left to increase the aggressiveness.

Additionally, the carbide sharpener sharpens your blade to a 25° angle, while the ceramic hone micro bevels at 30°.

Additional Features

  • Top carrying handle
  • Double zipper

How To Use the Leatherman Tool Maintenance Kit

Leatherman Tool Maintenance Kit

Maintaining your multi-tool may be a new concept for you, so let’s walk through the process. The first thing to do is spray a solvent (WD-40 works great for this) over the areas you’re working on.

We like to start with the pick for cleaning. As you pivot the tools in and out, look for any debris hanging on around the joints and use the pick to pull it out. You can also use it to scrape at any rust spots that may be starting.

From there, use the brush to clean off any dirt or grime that may still be present on each tool and at its joint.

Leatherman Tool Maintenance Kit

Next, move to the sharpeners. If your knife is noticeably dull, use the coarse grit first and then switch to the fine grit. Start from the base of the blade’s edge and pull through to the point using light pressure. Start with 10 times on each grit followed by 5 pulls across the hone. Check the sharpness by slicing through a sheet of paper. If it slices cleanly, you’re good to go. However, If the blade sticks or doesn’t cut, repeat the process.

If your blade isn’t in bad shape, give it 5 pulls across the fine grit and 5 across the hone.

Finally, put a few drops of oil on the joints and lock points. Work them back and forth to help the lubricant set in and wipe the excess away with the microfiber cloth.

Leatherman Tool Maintenance Kit Price

You can find this maintenance kit for $69.95 from Leatherman. It includes all the accessories listed above, along with the carrying case.

The Bottom Line

The multitude of accessories and spacious storage bag make this kit an excellent addition to any Leatherman owner’s arsenal. Whether you’re an avid Leatherman user or you only break it out once in a while, this maintenance kit helps you keep your multi-tool in great shape.

Our Milwaukee PackOut Modular Storage System review had us covering everything the company currently offers. The system lets you easily stack and lock together boxes, organizers, and totes of multiple sizes and configurations. Through an intuitive and quick attachment mechanism, you have the freedom to stack and lock various PackOut tool boxes, organizers, and totes into any variety of configurations to suit your needs. What’s more, Packout keeps expanding to things like the Packout Radio, Packout light, Milwaukee Packout drawers, and even a Packout vacuum.

The initial PackOut Modular Storage System consists of 8 products – 3 tool boxes, 2 organizers, and 3 storage totes.  All of the items in the PackOut line are built with an emphasis on convenience, organization, and durability. Since then, however, the system has expanded almost exponentially.

We’re going to break down our review of the Milwaukee Packout system in a couple of phases. First, we’ll look at each class of storage as a group.

Milwaukee PackOut Modular Storage System Tool Boxes

Milwaukee PackOut

The foundation of the Milwaukee PackOut System is the rolling toolbox. In the same category are two other non-wheeled toolboxes. For common features, they all sport an IP65 rating against dust and water along with reinforced corners.

Milwaukee constructs all of the tool boxes in the PackOut line from impact-resistant polymer.  There are also Milwaukee Tick mounting locations on the lids.

We paid special attention to the latches on each of the tool boxes in our Milwaukee Packout review. The stout latches give plenty of reason for confidence. I like that Milwaukee includes a metal washer to reinforce the padlock hole. However, one of our boxes already lost one, so you’ll want to keep an eye on those.

What I’d really like to see is for the internal boxes on these to nest onto the Packout lids. But the design feature that allows the boxes to lock together requires some extra tooling for the boxes and bins to sit in them nicely.

Milwaukee PackOut Organizer Options

Milwaukee PackOut

Things begin to shrink slightly when you move to the PackOut Organizers. The latches aren’t as substantial but are still excellent for the application. The handles are a bit smaller as well. However, the attachment points are just as solid as the tool boxes.

You’ll notice a strong resemblance to the Milwaukee Jobsite Organizers from recent memory. The internal boxes are the same and you can organize them the way you like. The lid also recesses into them so bits, fasteners, etc. don’t go wandering next door. The lids are transparent, so it’s easy to identify what’s in each box. Milwaukee crafts each bin using impact-resistant polymers that have an IP 65 rating.

Like the internal boxes on the tool boxes, what’s missing here is the ability to set the bins into the top with a level of security.

Milwaukee PackOut Totes

Milwaukee PackOut

Unique to the PackOut system is the integration of soft storage tote bags, which clip onto the top of any PackOut toolbox or organizer. You can attach the tote to the top of your PackOut gear for easier transport. These totes are available in three sizes – 10″, 15″, and 20″ with a variety of pocket and loop combinations.  All of them feature 1680D ballistic material construction, as well as impact-resistant molded bases.

What I really like about the integration of totes in the PackOut system is that it allows me to keep my hand tools organized separately from my power tools. Realistically, how often do you go to a job with no hand tools?

In the end, it’s a great way to ensure you can customize the entire system and grab just what you need for each job.

Milwaukee Packout Shop Storage and Customization

Milwaukee Packout Shop Storage and Customization

Starting with wall/floor plates, you can hang your Packout-compatible tool boxes, radio, and other solutions more conveniently.

In 2022, Packout took the next step by adding shop storage and organization to the mix. Two new wall plate sizes (one smaller and one larger) now make customizing the use of your space easier. From there, we have all kinds of accessories from hooks and shelves to battery organizers and long-handle tool holders. There’s even a cabinet and paper towel roll holder.

Whether you’re organizing your shop or garage, it’s the best overall system we’ve used.

Bottom Line

Milwaukee PackOut

I’ve had a lot of requests to review the Milwaukee Packout system in comparison to what you get from DeWalt or Ridgid. The short story is it’s a much better system—but it’s more expensive. That’s a slippery slope, though. It’s kind of like comparing an SUV built on a car frame to one built on a truck frame. Yes, they’re both SUVs, but they’re not in the same class. That’s where the Milwaukee PackOut system is compared to the other portable storage options – it’s simply a different class.

What I love about the system is the customization that goes along with so many storage options. Optimizing the toolboxes for power tools and accessories, the organizers for fasteners, and the totes for hand tools, I can grab the components I need for any job and leave the rest in the shop or the truck. Plus, you have a tough system that offers unique and flexible options for each component.

Is there room for improvement? Absolutely. I’d really like all the internal bins and boxes to fit onto the PackOut locks and each of the components has tradeoffs here and there. But overall, this is the system every tradesman is going to want to get into. And Milwaukee has already told us this is only the beginning for PackOut.

Customize and Build Your Own Packout System at Milwaukee

You can actually customize and build your own Milwaukee Packout System by dragging and dropping components together to decide what works for you. It’s an interesting module Milwaukee Tool added to their Packout sub-site. Check it out for yourself if you haven’t already.

Build Your Own Milwaukee Packout Storage System

Milwaukee PackOut Modular Storage System Components

Tool Boxes

Milwaukee PackOut Rolling Toolbox

At the base of our review of the PackOut system, we had the rolling toolbox.  Boasting 9″ all-terrain wheels and a metal through-axle, Milwaukee designed this toolbox to easily roll over a variety of surfaces and job site conditions.  This toolbox includes an industrial-grade, ergonomic extension handle designed to support box loads of up to 250 lbs.

Milwaukee PackOut

Unless you’re an electrician or HVAC Pro that really can get away with carrying your tools in a bag or backpack, you want to get the PackOut rolling box as your foundation. It’s great for bulk storage and can fit a variety of power tools and accessories. As long as you’re not OCD about everything sitting exactly where you placed it, it’s a good bet.

As we reviewed the Milwaukee Packout review, we loved that the lid stays open on its own. This held true even when sitting at an angle. You can feel it gently snap into place. The latches are stout, which is always a win.

The telescoping handle seems awfully close to overbuilt. Just keep in mind that it’s going to potentially support the rest of your PackOut system and its contents.

Our rolling box managed to take some damage in shipping. While it’s always a bit of a bummer for your new tools to be imperfect when they arrive, it’s actually the perfect opportunity to see how the reinforcement protects the box and its contents.

  • Width: 25.6″
  • Height: 18.9″
  • Weight: 23.4 lbs
  • MSRP: $139

Milwaukee PackOut Large Tool Box Review

With two carry handles, our review of the Milwaukee PackOut large toolbox showed that it gives you the best of both worlds. Based on what you’re carrying, you can hold it like a lunchbox or a suitcase. The only real negative on the exterior is that the lid won’t stay open while you have it attached to the rolling toolbox. However, you can alleviate that by dropping the rolling box’ handle all the way down.

Milwaukee PackOut

On the inside, you’re looking at the same accessories organizer as the rolling box. The rest is bulk storage. The only thing I’m missing is the tool storage points for drills and impact drivers that you find in the 24″ Work Box.

Milwaukee PackOut
  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8425
  • Metal Reinforced Locking Point
  • 100 lb Weight Capacity

  • Width: 16.1″
  • Height: 11.3″
  • Weight: 12.1 lbs
  • MSRP: $89.97

Milwaukee PackOut Tool Box

The smallest Milwaukee PackOut toolbox offering we reviewed dominated with its organization. There’s little bulk storage, but plenty of room for 2–3 drills or drivers plus a charger and batteries.

Milwaukee PackOut

Storage on either end reveals 4 smaller boxes. One of the top boxes is open while the other snaps shut and offers 4 separate compartments. Accessories like Sawzall blades can go in the open one and smaller bits are a great fit for the locking lid box.

Below the top boxes are identical deeper boxes. They have 3 compartments each and are a great fit for fasteners.

  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8424
  • 75 lb Weight Capacity
  • IP65 Rated Weather Seal
  • Interior Organizer Trays
  • Mounting Location For One-Key Tick

Milwaukee Packout Drawers

One of the most highly-anticipated reviews had to be out time with Milwaukee Packout Drawers. Found in two styles, Packout Drawers provide a really convenient way to store tools or accessories while providing locking abilities.

Milwaukee Packout Drawers Tool Boxes
  • Model Number: 48-22-8442 (2-drawer); 48-22-8443 (3-drawer)
  • 2- and 3-Drawer Tool Boxes
  • IP65 Rated Weather Seal

  • Length: 16.3″
  • Width: 22.2″
  • Height: 14.3″
  • MSRP: $149.99 (2-drawer), $164 (3-drawer)

Organizers

Milwaukee PackOut Organizer Review

This full-width organizer features a combination of 10 internal bins. You can remove and hang them during use. You can also move them around any which way you like inside. And if you get more than one or a combination of this model and the compact organizer, you can swap the bins around in any combination you want to.

Milwaukee PackOut

I like the long middle section of the organizer for longer bits, fasteners, or recip blades. It’s not removeable, but it’s definitely useful.

  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8430
  • 10 Removable And Mountable Bins
  • IP65 Rated Weather Seal
  • No-Travel Bins Prevent Small Part Migration Between Bins
  • Length: 19.76″
  • Width: 15″
  • Height: 4.61″
  • Weight: 6.5 lbs.
  • MSRP: $49.97

Editor’s Note: Check out how we used these types of organizers to create the best Lego storage and organization system we’ve ever used.

PackOut Compact Organizer

Unique to the Milwaukee PackOut system are a couple of half-width options and the compact organizer is one of them. This one has 5 removable bins and doesn’t have the long storage area that the full-size organizer has.

Milwaukee PackOut

What’s interesting here are the latches. They are on the corners rather than flat on the front or sides. That exposes them a bit more than the other latches on both the tool boxes and organizers. However, I like the closure security they provide.

One thing to note here on interlocking – the compact organizer can fit on any of the other toolboxes and organizers. You’ll only be able to lock another compact organizer or 10″ tote on top of it, though. If you have two of the compact boxes locked in side by side, you’ve opened the entire line back up to lock onto them. Realistically, you’re probably going to have these on top or just one or two of the totes on top of it.

  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8435
  • 5 Removable And Mountable Bins
  • IP65 Rated Weather Seal
  • No-Travel Bins Seal Prevent Small Part Migration Between Bins
  • Length: 9.72″
  • Width: 15.24″
  • Height: 4.61″
  • Weight: 3.31″
  • MSRP: $34.97

Storage Totes

Milwaukee PackOut 20” Tote

As the largest of the PackOut totes, you get 32 pockets to work with. Realistically, Milwaukee could have put more in there. But they decided to leave one side pocket-free. With this size tote, I can carry a variety of power tools in the open side – including a Sawzall.

Milwaukee PackOut

One really nice consideration is a pad on one side. As you’re carrying the tote, it helps reduce the pain that can come from the side of your bag rubbing against you. The metal tape measure clip is a must-have for every Pro as are the hanging loops if you’re an electrician or plumber.

The divider isn’t removable, but you have a gap on either side. It’s not a big deal, but it’s possible for anything loose in the bag to switch sides. I’d like the zipping pockets to be a bit deeper. As it is, you can fit several Sawzall blades, pencils, or longer accessories in them.

  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8320
  • 1680 Ballistic Material Construction
  • Impact Resistant Molded Base
  • All Metal Hardware
  • Padded Shoulder Strap
  • Durable Overmold Handle
  • 32 Total Pockets
  • Length: 11″
  • Width: 20″
  • Height: 17″
  • Weight: 7.65 lbs.
  • MSRP: $109.97

Milwaukee PackOut 15” Tote

The PackOut 15″ tote is essentially the Mini Me to the 20″ model. The only difference is it’s a little smaller, there’s one less pocket, and it locks onto just one half a PackOut toolbox or organizer. It has the same pros and cons as its larger brother.

  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8315
  • 1680 Ballistic Material Construction
  • Impact Resistant Molded Base
  • All Metal Hardware
  • Padded Shoulder Strap
  • Durable Overmold Handle
  • 31 Total Pockets
  • Length: 11″
  • Width: 15″
  • Height: 17″
  • Weight: 6.15 lbs.
  • MSRP: $99

Milwaukee PackOut 10” Tote

The smallest member of the PackOut tote family is actually the widest. It has a total of 28 pockets and the middle divider is removable. Both external zipping pockets are deeper than the other members. Like the 15″ tote, this one also locks in on half the width of any full-size PackOut toolbox or organizer.

  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8310
  • 1680 Ballistic Material Construction
  • Impact Resistant Molded Base
  • All-Metal Hardware
  • Padded Shoulder Strap
  • Durable Overmold Handle
  • 28 Total Pockets
  • MSRP: $62.97

Milwaukee Packout Tool Bags and Low-Profile Organizer Expansion

Milwaukee Packout Expansion

Milwaukee Packout Tool Bags

I love that Milwaukee started with open top tool bags as a new concept in modular storage. They’re taking it to the next level with zipper top tool bags. These go beyond just the standard duffel-style that you just throw a bunch of tools in, though you’re welcome to do that if you like.

Milwaukee Packout 15″ Tool Bag

The 15″ tool bag gives you bulk storage space for a variety of tools up to the size of a circular saw or Sawzall and you can fit a combination of smaller tools with their accessories. You get large outside pockets on both side and thin MOLLE-style straps to clip other gear on. This bag takes up a half-width area on your system, leaving you room for a second piece next to it.

  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8321
  • 1680 Ballistic Material Construction
  • Impact Resistant Molded Base
  • All Metal Hardware
  • Heavy-Duty Zippers
  • Daisy Chain Strap Points
  • Padded Shoulder Strap
  • 2 Outside Pockets
  • Reinforced Side Walls
  • Top and Side Handles
  • MSRP: $59.97

Milwaukee Packout 20″ Tool Bag

Milwaukee Packout Expansion

The 20″ tool bag starts with the same feature set as the 15″ bag and extends the storage space. There enough room to fit a full 4-piece combo kit. You also add 5 interior pockets – a medium size that’s perfect for meters and 4 small pockets for hand tools and small meters like a voltage tester. This is a full-width item, so it will make up the top of your Packout stack.

  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8322
  • 1680 Ballistic Material Construction
  • Impact Resistant Molded Base
  • All Metal Hardware
  • Heavy-Duty Zippers
  • Daisy Chain Strap Points
  • Padded Shoulder Strap
  • 6 Interior Pockets
  • 2 Outside Pockets
  • Reinforced Side Walls
  • Top and Side Handles
  • MSRP: $54.97

Milwaukee Packout Low-Profile Organizer

Milwaukee Packout Expansion

The Low-Profile Organizer is essentially a shorter version of the standard Packout Organizers. If you’ve been filling your Organizers with washers or small fasteners, you know they start packing some weight pretty quickly. Both Low-Profile models give you a shallower way to store them while still keeping items from traveling between bins.

They also have dividers that can help you organize into even smaller areas. Be aware that these dividers don’t prevent travel from one part of the bin to another. If you’re thinking you found the perfect replacement for your tackle box, those hooks and small weights are still going to mingle.

Milwaukee Packout Expansion

One feature I really like is the long middle space. It’s perfect for storing Sawzall blades and is also on the original Organizers.

This one is a full-width Organizer and you can stack more Packout products on it.

  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8431
  • Slim Profile
  • 10 Removable Bins
  • IP65 Rated Weather Seal
  • No-Travel Bins Prevent Small Part Migration Between Bins
  • Length: 19.76″
  • Width: 16.38″
  • Height: 2.52″
  • Weight: 4.55 lbs.
  • MSRP: $44.97

Milwaukee Packout Compact Low-Profile Organizer

Milwaukee Packout Expansion

The half-width Compact Low-Profile Organizer has all the same features as the full-width version minus the long center storage area. It’s a half-width product that can lock another item on top of it.

  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8436
  • Slim Profile
  • 5 Removable Bins
  • IP65 Rated Weather Seal
  • No-Travel Bins Prevent Small Part Migration Between Bins
  • Length: 16.38″
  • Width: 9.76″
  • Height: 2.52″
  • Weight: 2.35 lbs.
  • MSRP: $29.97

Milwaukee Packout Tech Bag

58 pockets surround the Tech Bag with protection against the elements and abrasion. There’s a Hardshell pocket that gives your tablet or laptop some additional survivability as well. The pack has a pretty large volume with a variety of different spaces for those pockets to help you really organize your bag. The top zips closed to offer some protection against the dust and debris floating around on site.

  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8300
  • 58 pockets
  • Hardshell tech pocket, jab saw pocket, and daisy chain straps included
  • 1680D ballistic material
  • Depth: 16.93″
  • Width: 10.63″
  • Height: 17.72″
  • Weight: 8.27 lbs.
  • MSRP: $119.97

Milwaukee Packout Backpack

Packout’s backpack features 48 pockets to go along with the convenience of keeping both hands free to climb or carry other equipment. Like the Tech Bag, Milwaukee includes a Hardshell pouch to protect electronics and other tech. They take their backpack a step further than most with extra padding in the shoulder straps. There’s a sternum strap to help stabilize the load.

  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8301
  • 48 pockets
  • Hardshell tech pocket, jab saw pocket, daisy chain straps, and tape measure clip included
  • 1680D ballistic material
  • Depth: 15.75″
  • Width: 11.81″
  • Height: 15.75″
  • Weight: 7.34 lbs.
  • MSRP: $129.97

Milwaukee Packout Cooler

At first glance, the Packout Cooler looks like Milwaukee’s job site cooler. That’s alright by me. The soft side design is one that I carry frequently and that friends who borrow it are reluctant to give back. It’s perfect for carrying your lunch and plenty of liquids while the exterior pockets keep other items where they can stay dry. Now you get the same benefits with Packout compatibility.

  • Model Number: Milwaukee 48-22-8302
  • 24-hour ice retention
  • Food-grade leakproof liner with no sweat exterior
  • 5 storage compartments
  • Tape measure clip/bottle opener
  • Depth: 15.75″
  • Height: 11.81″
  • Width: 15.75″
  • Weight: 3.8 lbs.
  • MSRP: $74.97

KNAACK Cart Armour Lineup Expands Compatibility To Suncast Carts

When you’re on the job, you can’t be constantly monitoring your equipment. Securing your tools from strangers’ wandering eyes or damage can take a lot of weight off your shoulders. That’s where KNAACK’s Cart Armour comes in. Find out how this storage solution could aid you and your team while keeping your tools safe.

KNAACK Cart Armour: The Big Deal

Cart Armour connects to your rolling tool cart to create a secure space for you and your team to store tools and gear on the job. It features an interlocking steel paneling design with heavy-duty 16-gauge steel featured on the panels and doors. These panels encapsulate your tool cart, protecting its contents from theft and damage.

The system fits select Rubbermaid, JET, and now Suncast brand carts. With the introduction of Suncast-compatibility, the Cart Armour lineup now totals seven unique models. KNAACK tells us that the panel installation takes less than 15 minutes, making it an easy and quick transformation.

The Cart Armour door features a recessed padlock design that allows for the use of a variety of padlocks. The recessed lock cove prevents the cart from snagging on doorways, materials, or clothing while you transport the cart.

Each model also connects with KNAACK’s Planzboard, which serves as a work surface and planning area for teams on the jobsite.

Additional Features

  • Install on new or existing cart models without cart modification
  • Powder-coat finish for durability and corrosion resistance
  • Electrical pass-through with grommet

KNAACK Cart Armour Price

All Cart Armour models retail for $276. You can find them at several online retailers and your favorite KNAACK dealer. KNAACK backs your purchase with a 3-year limited warranty.

Note that this price is for the conversion kit only and does not include the cart.

Specifications

  • Material: Steel
  • Lock system: recessed padlock
  • Steel gauge: 16-ga panels
  • Finish: Powder coat
  • Electrical access: Yes

Gearwrench GSX Tool Chests Smart and Strong

Gearwrench had trade Pros in mind when they designed the GSX Series Storage Chests and Cabinets. These tool storage solutions feature rugged builds and a stable of features to make securing, organizing, and accessing your tools with Gearwrench a smarter option. We got one of their 26-inch chest and cabinet combos for our office. We planned on using it to store our electrical and mechanical testing equipment along with other hand tools and supplies.

Editor’s Note: Check out our Best Tool Chests article for our top picks.

Gearwrench GSX Storage Chests and Rolling Tool Cabinets Features

GearWrench really beefed up the durability of its GSX chests and cabinets. They use 20-gauge steel for the construction—that’s about what you find on Snap-on’s Blue-Point roll cabs.

Additionally, the GearWrench GSX Tool Chests also offer gas-charged lift support struts. These let you effortlessly open and close the top lid. Ours remains open most of the time. Gearwrench made a great call including their logo prominently on the inside.

Industrial-grade Casters

Industrial-grade 5-inch casters (two locking and two fixed) offer easier mobility around the shop. They also lock down and don’t move unless you want them to. With tool chests, the locked end casters prevent the toolbox from rolling forward when you pull open the drawers. While this may make it more difficult to initially position, the trade-off makes sense.

Locking Drawers

GearWrench uses 22-gauge steel for the GSX cabinet’s drawers. These glide on ball-bearing slides for 100-pounds of load capacity and smooth opening. A trigger lock system lets you open and close the drawers naturally. Just grasp the handle and you automatically squeeze the release mechanism that lets you open the drawer.

Each drawer also includes a durable black foam mat liner that you can install. We recommend using spray adhesive to keep it from sliding around as you load the boxes with tools.

The drawers open and close easily, and we definitely like the locking feature. Nothing can open unexpectedly on you. If you plan to roll these boxes around, that can save you lots of potential headaches.

While we tested out the 26-inch GearWrench GSX Series Tool Chest and Cabinet, it also comes in 36-inch and 41-inch widths. Pair the tool chests and rolling cabinets together to make your desired systems. The two larger chests also include a built-in power strip with four outlets and two USB ports.

Since our 26-inch cabinet lacked this feature, we added one to the top chest which charges our iPads and label maker.

GearWrench GSX 35-inch 7-drawer Rolling Tool Cart with Tilt Top

If you want something truly mobile, check out the GearWrench GSX 35″ 7-drawer Rolling Tool Cart with Tilt Top. This system includes a built-in charging station, auto-return sliding drawers, and a textured finish. Though the cart feels compact, it still provides over 16,200 cubic inches of storage capacity.

Final Thoughts

We really like what we see with these toolboxes. Having already used the GearWrench Mobile Work Station, we knew we liked the general build quality, color scheme, and design of the GSX line. These tool chests and cabinets provide tons of storage and easy access to our tools. The build quality and style are second to none for the price.

You can, of course, find less expensive solutions. However, Gearwrench does a great job putting out quality products that both look and feel impressive. Once you get your hands on them and feel the drawers and latches you quickly get a feel for the quality.

Flex Stack Pack Challenges Tool Storage System Hierarchy

What’s your favorite tool storage system? Packout? TStak? Something else? After looking at what the Flex Stack Pack has to offer, you might just change your mind.

Flex Stack Pack Basic Design

Basics

Flex Stack Pack Storage System

The classic stackable tool box system has been around for a long time. Take various box depths with the same length and width, and give them a way to connect the bases and tops. At first glance, that’s what the Flex Stack Pack storage system does. Even at the foundational level, there are worthwhile talking points.

It starts with the boxes themselves. They use a durable tool plastic, similar to other premium stackable systems. The lids feature a gasket to keep water and debris out.

Flex Stack Pack Storage System

Organizer boxes with interior buckets nest into the lid to prevent items from wandering around. The latches hold securely and recess on the back side so they’re not snapping down on your fingers when you close them.

While there are other options to get those premium features, now we start to dive into where the Flex Stack Pack begins to set itself apart.

Auto-Connect Interlocking Stack Security

Auto-Connect Latches

The stacking locks are the easiest we’ve used. To lock one box on top of another, simply set it on the lid and press down once you have them lined up. It’s that easy.

To release a box, push out on the locks until you hear them click. They hold themselves open so you can adjust your grip or grab the handle and carry it away. When you take the top box off, the locks spring back into place, ready to accept its return.

Flex Stack Pack Storage System

In case you’re wondering, Flex’s design does include half-box interlocking. Conveniently enough, the hybrid jobsite fan just so happens to fit that half-box size perfectly. Coincidence? I think not.

Serious Weight Capacity

Looking at the three Flex Stack Pack tool boxes that come as a set, it has a higher weight capacity than others. Combined, it can hold 500 pounds. Milwaukee’s Packout set is rated for 425 pounds and DeWalt’s TStak set holds 470. Other options from Craftsman and Ridgid are under 150 pounds.

What The Flex Stack Pack Storage System Does Differently

Gas Strut Lids

Gas Strut Lids

We have to talk more about the lids. The medium box and rolling box have gas strut lids. Yep, no more holding the lid open with one hand while trying to grab a load with the other and wishing you had a third. Whichever member of the design team pushed for this addition, thank you!

Bonus Storage

Flex Stack Pack Storage System

As far as Flex is concerned, the outside of your tool box is fair game for storage, too. There are several exterior storage accessories you can add and they are legit.

  • Cord Wrap FS1605
  • Level Holder FS1602
  • Side (FS1604-2) and Front (FS1603) Attachment Racks
  • Battery Holders (connect to the Attachment Racks or inside some boxes) FS1601
  • Adjustable Charger Mounts FS1606-2 (interior only)
Accessory Rail

The cord wrap and, level holder are self-explanatory, but I want to spend a little more time on the attachment racks, mainly because they’re a brilliant idea. Tools with belt hooks and rafter hooks hang on them and we love the security that avoids knocking them off the top and not having to bend down to pick up our tools from the ground.

Battery Mount

They’re also compatible with battery holders. In addition to mounting on the outside, they also mount on the insides of the rolling and medium tool boxes. Best of all, they just slide it, so you can store batteries on the mounts inside and then pull the whole mount out and set it on the outside rail while you’re working.

Between holding tools and batteries outside the box, you now have more convenient access to the tools you’re using at a height that beats picking things up from the floor any day of the week.

Flex Stack Pack Case Connection

Flex Stack Pack Storage System Case Connection

In addition to the tool boxes, there are also Flex Stack Pack cases that hold accessory sets. Inside the medium and rolling boxes, the lid has connection points to hold Stack Pack cases.

The connections of these cases are more minimal, and it takes a little getting used to. One side is fixed and the other has a spring-loaded button. Set the fixed side into one slot and then snap the spring-loaded side into the other. Despite the minimalist look of the connection, we find that it holds the cases securely.

There are multiple connection points on the underside of those lids, making any size Stack Pack case compatible.

The same connections to the lid also connect the cases to each other. If you need some extra space, you can pop the cases onto the lid and add another layer to them if you like.

Flex Stack Pack Storage System Price

The Bottom Line

The deeper we dove into the Flex Stack Pack tool storage system, the more impressed we were. It makes improvements to the basic design of stackable tool boxes, adds premium features you find from other brands, and then takes it to a whole new level with concepts we haven’t seen before. Flex Stack Pack is redefining what you can expect from your toolboxes and everyone else is playing catch up.

You may know Diamondback for its excellent tool belts, but have you seen Diamondback tool bags and storage solutions?

We got our hands on a wide range of what the product team has put together to see what our guys think of them. While you’re reading, keep in mind that Diamondback products are Made in the USA. This is a pretty broad overview, so be sure to visit Diamondback’s website to learn more.

First Impressions

There’s one thing that stood out with each of these products immediately—they’re much lighter than we expect from Diamondback’s competition. Lighter weight means less fatigue, and that’s something we’re always grateful for.

Then there’s the construction. Diamondback tool bags use 1000D nylon for the primary construction. It’s an abrasion-resistant material that typically only fails on us if the stitching is poor quality. Looking broadly over the bags we received, we expect these Diamondback products to stand up to years of daily jobsite use.

Bora Centipede Redefines Portable Workbench Convenience

When you need a portable workbench, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? A couple of sawhorses and a sheet of plywood is a common go-to. There are some concerns about holding capacity and stability, though. The Bora Centipede workbench offers a different way of looking at things and has the potential to make your setup easier.

Bora Centipede Workbench Design

Essentially, the Centipede works on the same principle as those folding camp chairs that are so popular but with more points of contact.

The frame is made from steel and combines with the structural design to account for high load capacities. Because it is designed to have more contact points than a simple 4-leg system, it also allows you to put those heavy benchtop tools anywhere on the surface since the weight disperses over them.

How much can a Centipede hold? I’m glad you asked!

  • 4 x 2: 2500 pounds
  • 4 x 4: 3500 pounds
  • 4 x 6: 4500 pounds
  • 4 x 8: 6000 pounds

There are no typos there. Depending on which size you buy, you can hold up to 3 tons! Considering these only weigh 12 – 30 pounds, that’s very impressive.

Bora Centipede Workbench Accessories

P-Tops

P-Tops

Polymer P-Top caps are located on top of each support. These prevent damage to your workpieces from scratches or marks. They also elevate the top to avoid blades from circular saws or other tools from striking the crucial horizontal supports.

Quick Clamps

Bora Centipede Quick Clamps

Quick clamps slide into holes in the caps to secure your material in place. The caps rotate in order to accommodate clamping from whatever point is the most convenient.

The clamps are just simple rubber-covered plastic pieces that slip into the holes of the P-Tops without actually clamping down. My first thought was that I’d prefer my JackClamps holding the top in place. However, our top never moved during cutting.

X-Cups

X-Cups

The last accessories that come with the Bora Centipede workbench are X-Cups. These provide drop-in 2 x 4 support to create an instant sawhorse anywhere on the unit.

Because the P-Tops can swivel, I found that the X-Cups liked to move around on me a bit. With no load on it’s possible to knock your 2×4 support off. Once you have some weight on top, it’s a lot more stable, though.

Bora Centipede Workbench Top

Bora Centipede Workbench Top

There are also optional 2-foot x 4-foot folding tops you can use instead of plywood. These are made from MDF and have a couple of options with 20mm or 3/4-inch dog holes already drilled in them. A set of 6 twist lock handles come with each top, securing it to the Centipede and adding rigidity.

They have a hinge in the middle and handles cut into it to make carrying the top easier. You can also combine multiple tops to cover larger Centipedes.

We like this option over plywood, just be aware if you’re working outside and have rain in the forecast.

Using the Bora Centipede Workbench

Bora Centipede Workbench Review

When we first unfolded the frame, we were a little concerned about how much movement there was.

We set the Centipede up on the cement floor of our shop and placed a pair of X-Cups at each end to use it as a sawhorse and tentatively put a few boards on top that needed to be cut down to size. When I placed my hand on the board I was about to cut, I was impressed to find just how stable it was.

Switching things out for a workbench conversion, we set up the MDF top that came with our set.

Knowing that it worked as advertised on a smooth concrete surface, we went on a field trip. Not all jobsites have the luxury of smooth surfaces, and we wanted to know how they would do in less than ideal conditions. The challenge was to see if we could work the system around to make a safe, stable platform.

That’s an easier task for the smaller 2 x 4 Centipede Workbench. It didn’t take much effort at all to find a good working position for it. The larger sizes may take more effort, though. Still, having so many points of contact with the ground is significant for keeping the system from sinking lopsided into Florida’s infamous sugar sand. That design feature helps keeps it stable despite the slight elevation imperfections in the ground.

  • 4 x 4 Centipede with 25-inch WTX Clamp Edge and 25-inch Clamp Edge Extension: $149.90

The Bottom Line

We’ve been using the Bora Centipede Workbench from its original concept way back in 2015. It was an excellent product then and the latest versions have an even better weight capacity. What we love about it is how compact it stores for the amount of weight it holds and how easy the setup is. The price is reachable for DIYers who need to share garage space with a lot of other things and it’s convenient enough to make life easier for Pros as well.
