Chemical Guys Releases And Immediately Sells Out PM2000 Pressure Washer

Everyone’s car needs a good bath now and then. Some of us go way longer than we’d like to admit between car washes, especially when other things like work and family tend to take center stage. Chemical Guys has made it easier to get your ride back in pristine condition with the ProFlow PM2000 Pressure Washer. Find out how the brand designed it to give you the power you need in a convenient, compact body.

Chemical Guys ProFlow PM2000 Pressure Washer: The Big Deal

Chemical Guys ProFlow Pressure Washer PM2000

Many pressure washers, while they can provide a ton of much-needed power, tend to be bulky and not very user-friendly. The PM2000 pressure washer turns this stereotype on its head with its extremely compact design. Only 14 inches long, it pales in size to a lot of electric pressure washers we’ve reviewed.

Although it is lightweight and compact, it still generates a maximum of 2030 PSI with its 1680-watt (14-amp) electric motor. It also has a maximum flow rate of 1.77 GPM. While you shouldn’t expect these numbers to compete with top-of-the-line electric pressure washers, the PM2000 still has the chops for removing dirt and grime from many surfaces.

There are five spray tips with different angles (0°, 15°, 25°, 40°, and 60°) that connect to the tip via the quick connect adapter. You also get both a compact and extended pressure washer gun attachment, so that you can clean close-range and hard-to-reach areas with ease using any of the tips.

Another useful feature of this pressure washer is that it uses 4 rolling caster wheels for easy maneuverability. The wheels are self-locking, too, which comes in handy if you want it to remain in one place while you work.

Additional Features

  • Compatible with Chemical Guys foam cannon for soap application
  • 20-foot long high-pressure hose included
  • 35-foot power cable
  • Rubber feet included for stationary use

Chemical Guys ProFlow PM2000 Pressure Washer Price

Chemical Guys has been selling through these units like hotcakes since launch. The PM2000 pressure washer retails for $199.99 and includes the five angled attachments, both gun attachment sizes, and several other accessories. You can find out more on the Chemical Guys website.

While they have sold out of the initial stock, expect another shipment to come in before long.

Greenworks Targets Professionals Who Need An Electric Pressure Washer

With California banning small gas engines that run outdoor power equipment starting in 2024, professionals need to consider alternatives. And it’s not just regulation as OPE users around the country consider switching away from gas engines. One sector that’s been fairly quiet on the Pro side is pressure washers. After all, we’ve had electric pressure washers for a very long time. However, legitimate commercial-grade options are few and far between. The Greenworks 2500 PSI industrial electric pressure washer aims to fill the gap.

Greenworks 2500 PSI Industrial Electric Pressure Washer Performance

Greenworks 2500 PSI Industrial Electric Pressure Washer

Greenworks is near the top of the performance scale when it comes to water pressure on an electric model. Its brushless motor and pump combine to produce up to 2500 PSI with 1.2 GPM of water flow. When you’re working with less pressure, it can deliver up to 2.1 GPM at 100 PSI. Better yet, these PWMA-certified values, so you can have confidence the machine is actually delivering that level of cleaning power.

Considering Greenworks has a 3000 PSI electric pressure washer, that might leave you wondering what makes this more appropriate for commercial work. Digging deeper, we find out.

Greenworks 2500 PSI Industrial Electric Pressure Washer

A handful of pressure washers available use 14-amp brushless motors to great effect and moved us to higher pressure levels. While they’re much more widespread in cordless tools, corded models can still take advantage of the higher power, longer life, and lower maintenance concerns. With professionals putting far more hours on their pressure washers than homeowners, it’s no surprise to see Greenworks make a heavy-duty brushless move.

Then there’s the pump. One of the easiest ways to tell who a pressure washer is targeting is to look at the pump. Homeowner models go with an axial pump. They’re less expensive and can provide years of reliable service for low-hour machines. Professional models use a higher quality triplex pump and that’s what Greenworks chose. With its ceramic pistons, you can expect a long service life even with the more demanding hours a commercial pressure washer has to endure. In fact, this pump is rated for 1000 hours of use.

Triplex Pressure Washer Pump

Physical Design

Vertical Storage

Greenworks goes with a relatively simple, yet highly effective physical design. Surrounding the motor, pump, and detergent is a steel tube frame that provides easy access to the sides. The front bumper doubles as a lifting bar with a grip to help you load it on the tailgate of a truck. It also serves to help the pressure washer stand up vertically, taking up a smaller footprint on your trailer.

Hose and Wand

Pressure Washer Nozzle Set

Greenworks includes the standard 15°, 25°, 40°, Turbo, and Soap nozzle set that stores on the plate between the handles. Using a quick connect interface, they attach to a 36-inch wand.

The business end connects to the pressure washer with a 25-foot steel braided rubber hose that gives you better durability than the hoses that come on residential models.

Detergent Tank

Greenworks 2500 PSI Industrial Electric Pressure Washer

If you’re using a detergent as part of your cleaning process, Greenworks provides a generous 1-gallon tank. The nice thing about that capacity is you can fit an entire 1-gallon bottle of Simple Green or whatever you’re using in there.

Additional Highlights

  • Simple push-button starting
  • 35-foot cord with in-line GFCI
  • No gas engine noise, emissions, or maintenance

Greenworks 2500 PSI Industrial Electric Pressure Washer Price

Designed for professional use, we expect the price point to be higher on this Greenworks pressure washer. It runs $699.99 and the best place to find it in stock right now is direct from Greenworks. The unit is backed by a 3-year warranty.

The Bottom Line

As more of the country turns to electric power over gas, the Greenworks 2500 PSI industrial electric pressure washer offers high performance and more durable components without forcing you to a 240V motor. The overall design is easy to use and stores nicely whether you’re trailering to the job or maintaining a single campus.

Milwaukee M12 Sprayers Let You Complete Spraying Tasks with Newfound Convenience

Using traditional handheld pump sprayers can become laborious and tiresome. Whether you’re killing weeds with chemicals, spraying pesticides, or disinfecting a large area, Milwaukee M12 Handheld Sprayers should come in handy. Find out how introducing a battery into the equation could save you time and increase your productivity.

Milwaukee M12 Handheld Sprayers: The Big Deal

Milwaukee M12 1 gallon sprayer

The Milwaukee handheld sprayers offer pressure control without the need for manual pumping. Thanks to their inclusion in the M12 battery system, you have instant, constant, and adjustable pressure at your fingertips.

Compared to the Milwaukee M18 Switch Tank, the M12 sprayer drops the pounds…over 16 of them just based on tank size. The 2528-21G1 1-gallon model and 2528-21G2 2-gallon sprayer let you have the right sprayer for the size of your particular job.

Milwaukee M12 1-2 gallon sprayers

Milwaukee also gives you variable pressure settings. These let you choose your pressure level and feature settings from 20 to 80 PSI. You control the pressure with the 3-mode pressure adjustment knob. Additionally, at the maximum 80 PSI, the Milwaukee M12 Handheld Sprayers can deliver up to 17 feet of vertical spray.

We asked Milwaukee Tool about runtime expectations. They told us that an M12 RedLithium CP2.0 battery will deliver up to 80 gallons. That is a phenomenal amount of work.

Other battery-powered sprayers exist on the market. However, with this one, you have the added convenience of it being part of the M12 series. This is especially useful if you already own tools from Milwaukee’s M12 platform.

Additional Features

  • Onboard measuring cup for quick measurement
  • Strainer filters debris from entering the tank
  • Vertical and horizontal wand storage

Milwaukee M12 Handheld Sprayer Price

The 1-gallon model will retail for $189 as part of a kit. For just $10 more, the 2-gallon version’s kit retails for $199. Look for the Milwaukee M12 handheld sprayers starting in November 2022 at your favorite Milwaukee retailer.

Electric pressure washers are gaining more capability, making them more popular than ever. The Greenworks 3000 PSI electric pressure washer is one of the strongest options available without moving to a gas engine.

Greenworks 3000 PSI Electric Pressure Washer Performance

Pressure Washer Wand

There are two main ratings you need to know about any pressure washer: PSI and GPM. Greenworks can reach 3000 PSI with this model and up to 2.0 GPM, depending on which nozzle you’re using. Considering a decent electric model is around 2000 PSI/2.0 GPM, this is clearly a big step up. One of the ways Greenworks gets such high performance is its use of a brushless motor.

Brushless motors require electronic controls and that adds some possibilities. For the Greenworks 3000 PSI electric pressure washer, one of them is intelligent sensors that adjust the power and flow based on which nozzle you have on the wand.

However, not all ratings are the same. Some brands play games with where or how they take measurements, resulting in PSI Max and GPM Max that don’t accurately represent the working ratings. Greenworks has its ratings certified by the PWMA so there’s a high degree of confidence that the ratings on the box are what you’ll actually experience when you’re cleaning.

What you end up with is an electric pressure washer that really does clean with the power of entry-level gas models. And of course, there are no gas engine hassles, noise, or emissions to deal with.

Greenworks 3000 PSI Electric Pressure Washer Design Notes

Upright Storage

Greenworks 3000 PSI Electric Pressure Washer Review

Storing your pressure washer doesn’t have to take up a ton of space, especially when there are no gas engine fluids to worry about. Greenworks makes its design simple—just tilt it forward until it rests upright on the front bar. You don’t even have to fold the handle.

Generous Detergent Tank

1-Gallon Detergent Tank

Nearly all electric pressure washers have a detergent tank, but Greenworks’ 1-gallon tank is more generous than most. If you’re like us and buy Simple Green by the gallon, you can just fill the tank and recycle the bottle without having to store it.

Additional Highlights

Greenworks 3000 PSI Electric Pressure Washer Profile
  • Push-button starting
  • 10-inch never flat tires
  • 35-foot power cord with in-line GFCI
  • 25-foot kink-resistant hose
  • Axial cam pump with thermal relief valve
  • Includes 15°, 25°, 40°, soap, and turbo nozzles with onboard storage

Greenworks 3000 PSI Electric Pressure Washer Price

As one of the highest-performing electric pressure washers available, it’s no surprise that the Greenworks 5110502VT is also at the high end of the price scale. The retail price runs $399.00 and that comes with a 3-year warranty on the tool and a 10-year warranty on the brushless motor.

The Bottom Line

If you want to get into gas pressure washer performance without leaving the convenience of an electric unit behind, the Greenworks 3000 PSI electric pressure washer is a great way to accomplish that. Its combination of PWMA-certified performance and conveniently thought-out design make it an easy recommendation for homeowners.

Hart 20V Portable Rinser Offers Endless Adventure Cleanup Possibilities

How many times have you wished for a way to quickly rinse something off when there’s no access to a hose? It didn’t take long for our team to come up with a lengthy list and Hart has a 20V Portable Rinser that promises to help.

Pros

  • TONS of possibilities
  • Multiple spray patterns with the included nozzle
  • Delivers up to 38 gallons on one battery charge
  • 12V vehicle outlet compatible

Cons

  • We’d love a siphon hose option

Hart 20V Portable Rinser Performance

Just to clarify some expectations, this isn’t a pressure washer or power washer. It’s not designed to clean with high PSI, it’s designed to rinse using clean water.

With a 2.0Ah Hart 20V battery, you can spray up to 38 gallons at 70 max PSI and flow rates up to 0.9 GPM, depending on which nozzle setting you use. The tank itself holds 5 gallons, so that battery can get you through more than 7 tankfuls.

One of the cool things Hart did is include an 8-foot 12V vehicle adapter, extending that runtime much longer than you can get with a 20V battery.

12V Adapter Plug

Coming back to the nozzle, there are eight different settings: mist, vertical, flat, full, shower, center, cone, and stream. Thanks to all of those options, the portable rinser becomes incredibly versatile.

Hart 20V Portable Rinser Nozzle

Here are some of the ways we’re using it along with some other ideas for later:

  • Rinse saltwater off rods, reels, boat, and trailer
  • Camp shower
  • Rinsing mountain bikes and gear
  • Cleaning off a muddy dog before it comes inside
  • Rinse sandy feet and gear before getting in the car to come home from the beach
  • Water landscape plants where irrigation isn’t present
  • Clean up muddy boots after hunting or a day on the jobsite
  • Rinse salt off of your vehicle in the wintertime

What else can you think of? Tell us about it in the comments!

Understanding the Limitations

With all the things you can do, there are limitations. One is the capacity. You can get a lot done with 5 gallons, but you need to manage how you use it. For example, I can rinse off the rods and reels after a trip to Tampa Bay, but I need to refill the tank if I’m going to clean the entire boat deck and then again to turn around and hit the trailer.

Another is the pressure level. If you’re planning to use this for a camp shower, it’s not going to feel like stepping into your shower at home. Aside from not having a hot water source (this unit is rated for 120°F max), it’s a gentler flow. At 0.9 GPM max water flow, it takes a little longer to rinse the soap off.

Finally, keep in mind this is designed to deliver clean water. You shouldn’t mix fertilizer, pesticides, cleaner, or other chemicals in it.

In terms of actual improvements, a siphon hose option would be great to extend the volume using a larger container. I have a couple of 30-gallon plastic detergent containers from the local car wash that work great to carry extra cleaning water.

Hart 20V Portable Rinser Design Notes

Nozzle Holster

There’s a nozzle holster next to the fill cap and it works great when you need both hands free. Just push the nozzle to the on position, set it in the holster, and hit the power button to bring it to life.

Weight

It’s tough to call something a portable rinser if you can’t actually take it with you, and that’s part of why the tank holds five gallons instead of more. The rinser is 12.7 pounds on its own, so by the time you fill it up, you’re looking at roughly 54 pounds of total weight.

LED Light

There’s an LED light on the front (control side) of the unit. If you’re getting back to the car after dark, it’s helpful for seeing things fairly close up. It casts enough light that you can see within a few feet to get gear cleaned up.

Additional Features

  • Hook and loop strap to hold the hose
  • Battery door with closure to protect from errent spray

Hart 20V Portable Rinser Price

The rinser comes as a kit at Walmart for $99. It comes with the tool, a 2.0Ah battery, charger, 20-foot hose, 8-position nozzle, and 12V vehicle adapter (8-foot length). Hart backs it with a 3-year warranty.

The Bottom Line

When I first set eyes on this rinser, I knew it was going to change the way I clean my gear when we’re on the go. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, take a good look at how many different ways the Hart 20V Portable Rinser can make your next adventure an even better experience.

Better get your hands on one while you can—they’re currently marked as a clearance item!

We’ve used a lot of the best pressure washers over the years and we consistently keep turning back to Simpson because we get better quality and performance than other models at the same price. Still, there are a lot of Simpson pressure washer options, so we decided to help you narrow down the lineup with our favorites.

Choosing the Right Level

Simpson pressure washers are specifically designed to meet the needs of several different levels. Choose the right one for your needs to make sure you get the best possible experience within your budget.

There are other specialty categories as well as replacement pumps, hoses, and accessories. Since we’re guessing you landed here for traditional pressure washers, we’re going to focus on the first three categories.

Comparing Pressure Washer Cleaning Power

When you’re comparing pressure washer ratings for pressure and flow rate, an easy way to see how they match up is to multiply the PSI and GPM. This gives you a general “cleaning power” rating, and the higher, the better. Here’s an example:

Model AModel BModel C
PSI3600 PSI3200 PSI2300 PSI
GPM2.1 GPM2.5 GPM1.2 GPM
Cleaning Power7560 80002760
Cleaning Power = PSI x GPM

While it might seem like the 3600 PSI model is the best choice, the 3200 PSI model actually has mode cleaning power and can help you get the job done more efficiently.

Alright, let’s get on with the recommendations already!

Best Simpson Electric Pressure Washer

Clean Machine 2300 PSI Electric Pressure Washer

Best Simpson Pressure Washers CM60976

Without a doubt, our favorite electric Simpson pressure washer is the Clean Machine CM60976. With a max pressure of 2300 PSI and water flow topping out at 1.2 GPM, there are very few options that can give you more cleaning power without turning to a gas engine. This one gets a brushless motor upgrade. Even though that’s something we typically see on cordless power tools, the pressure washer gets the benefits of lower maintenance and longer life compared to brushed motors.

Price: $259

Best Simpson 3000 PSI Pressure Washer (2800 – 3000 PSI)

Residential: Simpson Clean Machine 2800 PSI Pressure Washer

At $299, Simpson’s Clean Machine CM61081 is an excellent entry into gas-powered pressure washers and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg compared to electric options. With 2800 PSI and 2.3 GPM max ratings, you’ll see significantly faster cleaning than a corded unit.

One minor downside is that it only has space for the three nozzles that come with it: 0º, 25º, and soap. If you want to add the 15º, 40º, and/or turbo nozzles that come with some pressure washers, you’ll have to add those separately.

Price: $299

Premium Residential: Simpson MegaShot 3000 PSI Pressure Washer with 15-Inch Surface Scrubber

Best Simpson Pressure Washers Simpson MS60805-S

If you’re willing to come up in price about $100 into the premium residential class, you get a couple of excellent benefits with the Simpson MegaShot MS60805-S. For starters, you get more cleaning power with pressure up to 3000 PSI and volume up to 2.4 GPM.

This unit comes with a Honda GCV160 engine known for its reliability. Simpson also includes their 15-inch surface scrubber to go with it. Surface scrubbers can save you hours of work just on your driveway and it’s our #1 recommended add-on, so the fact that this MegaShot pressure comes with one is a huge bonus in our opinion.

Price: $399

Best Simpson 3200 PSI Pressure Washer (3100 – 3300 PSI)

Residential: Simpson Clean Machine 3300 PSI Pressure Washer

Best Simpson Pressure Washers CM61117

If your cleaning needs are higher than entry-level gas can take you, check out Simpson’s Clean Machine CM61117 for an excellent balance of performance and value. Simpson turns to a Kohler SH265 engine paired with their OEM Technologies axial cam pump to deliver as much as 3300 PSI and 2.4 GPM.

Unlike the previous Clean Machine we recommended, this one comes with a full suite of nozzles: 0°, 15º, 25°, 40°, and soap. This one also shifts from thinner no-flat wheels to 10-inch pneumatic that make it easier to pull the pressure washer across your lawn.

Price: $349

Premium Residential: Simpson MegaShot 3300 PSI Pressure Washer with 15-Inch Surface Cleaner

Are you sensing a theme with our recommendations yet? When it’s in your budget, we really like the benefits of a Honda engine and we highly recommend a surface scrubber. Moving into this power level, Simpson’s MS61033-S goes with a Honda GCV190 engine that offers 3300 PSI and 2.4 GPM through its OEM Technologies axial cam pump.

Price: $449

Commercial: Simpson PowerShot 3300 PSI Pressure Washer

Best Simpson Pressure Washers PS3228

Commercial-level pressure washers come into play with Simpson’s PowerShot PS3228. It uses a commercial-grade Honda GX200 engine and shifts from axial cam to a AAA triplex pump. The combination sets you up with a machine designed for much more frequent use over long hours. This entry-level commercial model boasts 3300 PSI with 2.5 GPM using a 5/16-inch hose.

Price: $599

Best Simpson 3500 PSI Pressure Washer (3400 – 3700 PSI)

Residential: Simpson Clean Machine 3500 PSI Pressure Washer with 15-Inch Surface Scrubber

Best Simpson Pressure Washer CM61118

Moving up in power to another level, Simpson’s Clean Machine CM61118 shares the same Kohler SH265 engine as our previous recommendation. This time it pairs with a AAA AX300 axial cam pump dialed into 3500 PSI and 2.5 GPM.

In addition to its higher performance level, Simpson includes their 15-inch surface scrubber with the kit along with their standard 5-piece nozzle set and steps up to a 5/16-inch hose.

Price: $499

Premium Residential: Simpson MegaShot 3400 PSI Pressure Washer

Wrapping up the top performance for the premium residential line, the MegaShot MS61084-S (61085 if you’re shopping online) switches back over to Kohler for its powerplant, using their SH265 engine with an OEM Technologies axial cam pump to get 3400 PSI and 2.5 GPM.

Note that this model also steps up from a 1/4-inch hose to a 5/16-inch. This is also priced less than our previous MegaShot recommendation, but it doesn’t include a surface scrubber.

Price: $499

Commercial: Simpson Pro Series 3700 PSI Pressure Washer

Best Simpson Pressure Washers PS60982

Lifting the pressure higher, the Simpson Pro Series PS60982 carries a Honda GX200 engine and gets an extra bump in performance from its AAA triplex pump with PowerBoost. Hitting 3700 PSI and 2. 5 GPM, this commercial-level pressure washer comes with a 50-foot 5/16-inch hose to extend your reach beyond what standard 25-foot hoses offer. If you’re looking for the best power you can get without a significant increase in overall size, this is where it’s at.

Best Simpson 4000 PSI Pressure Washer (3800 – 4200 PSI)

Commercial

When you start looking at the 4000 PSI level, you’re getting away from residential models and into pressure washers where you should expect a commercial build. Simpson has several great options to choose from and we like the PowerShot PS4240 edging out the aluminum-framed ALH4240.

Generating 4200 PSI and 4.0 GPM, this is about as much cleaning power as you can hope without jumping into Simpson’s belt-driven models. To get that kind of power, Simpson uses a Honda GX390 engine and pairs it with a AAA triplex pump with PowerBoost. At this level, it also uses a 3/8-inch hose that’s 50 feet long.

Price: $989

Ryobi Raises The Bar For Electric Pressure Washers With Its 3000 PSI Unit

While there are many, many electric pressure washers available, not many of them can boast the cleaning power the Ryobi 3000 PSI electric pressure washer has.

Ryobi 3000 PSI Electric Pressure Washer: The Big Deal

Ryobi 3000 PSI Electric Pressure Washer

Topping out at 3000 PSI, this is the most powerful electric pressure washer Ryobi has to date. It uses a brushless motor and water-cooling technology to clean up dirt and grime on driveways, sidewalks, siding, and other surfaces.

Ryobi tells us that this electric pressure washer has enough power to compete with gas-powered models without the hassle of gas, oil, and maintenance. And that’s true from a PSI standpoint. Where gas still has the advantage is with higher GPM. Ryobi puts out 1.1 GPM while gas models are usually closer to 2.0 GPM with the same pressure.

Still, this is a big deal. Only Greenworks has an electric model at the same power level, and both are PWMA-certified ratings.

Additional Features

  • Included Quick-Change nozzle lets you change between cleaning settings
  • 35-foot-long high-pressure hose gives you greater freedom of movement
  • 12-inch wheels help you navigate over wet or grassy terrain
  • Integrated soap tank
  • Hand-truck design
  • Includes 5-in-1 nozzle (15°, 25°, 40°, Fan Soap, and Jet Soap) and a Turbo nozzle
  • On-board accessory storage

Two other Ryobi pressure washers were introduced along with this model: a 2700 PSI version and an 1800 PSI version. All three pressure washers are available now.

There are SOOOOO many options on the market that it can be overwhelming to figure out what the best electric pressure washer is for you. We’re taking the guesswork out of it with a comprehensive overview of the current landscape. Whether you’re looking for the best overall, the most powerful, the best value, or you already have a brand in mind, here are our top recommendations for the year.

Best Electric Pressure Washer Overall

Greenworks Pro 3000 PSI Brushless Pressure Washer

Best Electric Pressure Washer Reviews | Greenworks Pro 3000 PSI Brushless Pressure Washer

With 3000 PSI and 2.0 GPM (1.1 GPM @ 3000 PSI) and PWMA certification to back it up, the Greenworks 5110502VT is the most powerful electric pressure washer we’ve seen and it earns our pick as the best electric pressure washer of the year. Even though it’s not a cordless model, it still takes advantage of a brushless motor and what Greenworks calls “JettFlow” technology to reach higher than others have been able to. Other brands top out around 2300 or 2400 PSI, or they’re using PSI max to make the pressure washer look better.

It doesn’t come cheap, though. At nearly $400, it’s the most expensive corded model on our list. But if you’re after the strongest cleaning without turning to gas, this is it.

Best Cordless Electric Pressure Washer

Ryobi HP Brushless Whisper Series 1500 PSI Pressure Washer

Best Cordless Electric Pressure Washer | Ryobi HP Brushless Whisper Series 1500 PSI Pressure Washer

With only a few battery-powered options currently available, Ryobi reaches for its 40V battery system to power our choice as the best cordless electric pressure washer. It has 1500 PSI and 1.2 GPM of cleaning power when you kick it into boost mode. Even in its power-saving standard mode, it produces 1000 PSI and 1.2 GPM, outperforming the top cordless power cleaners.

You don’t need a pressurized water source if it’s not convenient. Just drop the siphon hose in a lake, pool, or bucket and you’re good to go. This model is also part of Ryobi’s Whisper Series, so you can count on it running quietly as you clean.

The kit includes everything you need to get started including two 6.0Ah batteries and a charger.

Best Electric Pressure Washer Value

Ryobi 1900 PSI Electric Pressure Washer RY1419MTVNM-SC

Best Electric Pressure Washer Value | Ryobi 1900 PSI Electric Pressure Washer RY1419MTVNM-SC

As we searched for the best value in an electric pressure washer, we wanted to find the right balance of cleaning power, quality, and price. There are several excellent options right around the $200 mark and we like Ryobi’s RY1419MTVNM-SC as the top pick.

On the performance side, it has up to 1900 PSI and 1.2 GPM and is PWMA certified. While it’s possible to get a couple hundred more PSI without breaking the $200 mark, we love how compact this model is and that it comes with a 12-inch surface cleaner. If you’re going to be cleaning concrete areas, that add-on alone can save you hours of work.

Best Electric Pressure Washers By Brand

Craftsman 2400 PSI Electric Pressure Washer CMEPW2400

Best Craftsman Pressure Washer | Craftsman 2400 PSI Electric Pressure Washer CMEPW2400 - $249

Craftsman has several solid pressure washer choices at pretty attractive prices. Our top choice for Craftsman also happens to have the highest pressure in their electric lineup. Certified by CETA, it tops out at 2400 PSI and 1.1 GPM. The unit’s four included nozzles plus a turbo nozzle store on the top and the frame’s 10-inch wheels make rolling across the lawn an easier task.

DeWalt 2100 PSI Electric Pressure Washer DWPW2100

Even though DeWalt has a 2400 PSI electric pressure washer, our top pick is their innovative 2100 PSI/1.2 GPM pressure washer design. Roughly the size of a carry-on suitcase, a roll cage completely surrounds the housing. The wand and nozzles store inside and a telescoping handle makes rolling the unit around easier.

HART 2000 PSI Pressure Washer

HART 2000 PSI Electric Pressure Washer

HART has several pressure washers to choose from (and a power cleaner if you need less power with more portability!). Our top choice is the 2000 PSI/1.2 GPM HW142112VNM. It’s the strongest pressure washer in HART’s lineup with the cleaning power to handle small areas easily or pair with a surface cleaner to hit driveways and walkways more quickly. At the same time, it has a reasonably small footprint so it’s easy to get in and out and doesn’t take up too much space in your garage.

Karcher K2 Entry Electric Pressure Washer Kit

Karcher K2 Entry Electric Pressure Washer Kit

Karcher has a wide range of electric pressures to choose from. Dialing down in power while dialing up the portability, the Karcher K2 Entry gets our top recommendation for the brand. Maxing out at 1600 PSI and 1.35 GPM, this little unit packs a lot of cleaning power into a frame that’s less than 20 x 7 x 16 inches and weighs just 10.6 pounds, not including the hose and wand. Add Karcher’s foam nozzle and turn it into a highly portable vehicle/boat/RV cleaning machine.

Ryobi 2300 PSI Electric Pressure Washer RY142300

Best Ryobi Electric Pressure Washer | Ryobi 2300 PSI Electric Pressure Washer RY142300

Topping out at 2300 PSI and 1.2 GPM, Ryobi’s PWMA-rated RY142300 electric pressure washer uses a brushless motor to get better efficiency and life out of the system. Brushless technology is more expensive and that’s why this model may seem a bit higher compared to others, but the benefits are worth it. This unit includes three nozzles, one of which is a turbo nozzle. Additionally, its 12-inch wheels are great for moving across lawns and other terrains.

Simpson Clean Machine 2300 PSI Electric Pressure Washer CM60976

Simpson makes a ton of great pressure washers for homeowners all the way up to commercial professionals. Most are gas models, but the Clean Machine CM60976 is an excellent choice for an electric pressure washer. Producing 2300 PSI and 1.2 GPM on the top end, the big deal here is value. This is another model that uses brushless motor technology, but it costs less than its closest brushless competitors.

Stihl RE 90 Electric Pressure Washer

Stihl RE 90 Electric Pressure Washer

Stihl doesn’t have as deep of a pressure washer line as some brands, but each one is intentionally designed. Between their two electric offerings, the Stihl RE 90 offers homeowners better value. With 1800 PSI and 1.2 GPM, it’s just 200 PSI less than the stronger RE 110 Plus, but it’s more than $150 less expensive.

Having access to Stihl’s local dealer network is a big plus and the frame’s tight footprint won’t take up much floor space in your garage. However, one of the quirks of this unit is its smaller 19-foot hose. Most come with a 25-foot hose, so your reach is a bit shorter.

What About Sun Joe?

There’s some confusion surrounding some manufacturer’s PSI and GPM ratings. Brands such as Sun Joe and Westinghouse decided to use “PSI max” as a way to communicate pressure and it’s not the same as how other manufacturers get their numbers. Check out this article for more details.

While these brands make popular pressure washers and can do a good job of cleaning, pay close attention to the numbers when you’re comparing models.

Sun Joe 2030 PSI Electric Pressure Washer SPX3000

Sun Joe has one of the largest lines of electric pressure washers available and there’s no question the SPX3000 is their most popular. Boasting 2030 max PSI and 1.76 GPM, be sure to take a look at the fine print before pulling the trigger. Under a typical working load, it actually produces 1450 PSI, and the GPM rating is taken with the nozzle open (AKA no nozzle installed). Even though its $159 price tag is compelling, make sure you’re comparing it against other pressure washers in the 1500 PSI range.

On the positive side, Sun Joe’s design is easy to use, it has two removable detergent tanks, and it comes with 5 nozzles. Despite straying from typical specification reporting, it is a very approachable pressure washer that has served many homeowners very well.

Westinghouse ePX 2050 PSI Electric Pressure Washer

The Westinghouse ePX 2050 PSI pressure washer is different from most thanks to the four casters on the base. Rather than going with two larger wheels, this one resists tipping over with four points of ground contact. However, that also makes it tough to roll across grass. On the other hand, the whole package is less than 25 pounds, so it’s not too heavy to pick up when you need to.

On the performance side, you’re looking at 2050 max PSI (the manual states 2030 max PSI) and 1.76 GPM. Sound familiar? That’s the same specs as the Sun Joe model and while Westinghouse doesn’t have the same disclosure Sun Joe uses, it’s reasonable to expect your working PSI is closer to 1500 and that the GPM rating was taken with no nozzle installed.

Worx WG607 2000 PSI Electric Pressure Washer

Worx is another brand that displays PSI max, but to their credit, they make it very clear what the expected working pressure is. On the WG607, they put the 2000 PSI working pressure in the name and let you know it has 2200 max PSI in the technical specs. The same goes for the GPM rating. Its rated flow is 1.2 GPM with a max of 1.4. We appreciate the clarity!

We like the hose reel built into the frame a lot. Managing the hose when you’re storing or moving any pressure washer can be a pain and the assist is helpful. Among the four nozzles that come in the box, one is an ever-handy turbo nozzle that helps lower-PSI units work more efficiently.

Electric Vs Gas Pressure Washer

Electric pressure washers don’t have as much power as gas models, but they do hit levels that are excellent for use around your home.

What’s nice is how low-maintenance electric models are. There’s no gas, oil levels, spark plugs, or carburetors to worry about. Plus the noise level is much lower and there are no emissions.

You are tied to an electrical source, though. Considering you are also tethering to a water source, it’s not as inconvenient as a corded vs cordless power tool.

Comparing PSI and GPM

It can be tough to figure out which option among several pressure washers gives you the best cleaning power. There’s a relatively simple formula to compare them—just multiply the PSI by the GPM. Here are a few examples:

PSIGPMCleaning Power
Model A20001.22400
Model B22001.43080
Model C23001.32990

Take a look at this article to learn more about the relationship between PSI and GPM in pressure washers.

Electric Pressure Washer Vs Power Cleaner

There’s a relatively new class of cleaning tools called power cleaners that are on the market, such as the Worx Hydroshot. These are incredibly convenient for cleaning a variety of things, especially considering you can connect a hose directly to them or use a siphon hose and a bucket of water.

The big difference between a pressure washer and a power cleaner is that pressure washers have much higher pressure. A power cleaner is fully contained in a tool not much larger than a pressure washer wand and the components have to be smaller. While pressure washers usually start around 1500 PSI and go way up from there, most power cleaners are 300 – 600 PSI. On the other hand, the flow rate of a power cleaner can be similar to an electric pressure washer.

If you’re a value shopper like me, you’re looking for the most bang for your buck. So you open your tabs and (if you’re really obsessed) your spreadsheets and start comparing. However, everything isn’t always as it seems. 18V isn’t any different than 20V max. There’s no good comparison between in-lbs of torque and unit watts out. Then there’s pressure washer PSI and PSI max.

Certifying Pressure Washer PSI and GPM

In today’s world where it’s hard to know who to trust, objective testing and data are worth their weight in gold for people who want the honest truth. When it comes to shopping for pressure washers, certified PSI and GPM ratings from PWMA (Pressure Washer Manufacturer’s Association) and CETA (Cleaning Equipment Trade Association) are very important because they tell you what you can expect when you’re actually working.

That seems like kind of a “duh” statement, and until a few years ago, I wouldn’t have thought it worth writing an article about. But that was before the term “PSI Max” and “GPM Max” started showing up on brands such as Sun Joe. It’s a measurement that tells you the highest momentary pressure you can get. The upside is you have an idea of the greatest injury/damage potential. The downside is that it’s usually way off from the working pressure.

Pressure Washer PSI Case Study

Take Sun Joe’s extremely popular SPX3000. It’s a 14.5-amp electric pressure washer that boldly claims 2030 PSI Max* with 1.76 GPM Max* and runs $169 for the pressure washer alone. To get similar numbers from Greenworks or Ryobi, the best you can do is $199 and you’re still short by more than 0.5 GPM.

But scroll down the page (or check the fine print on the box) and we find the working ratings. For the SPX3000, you actually get 1450 PSI and 1.24 GPM of cleaning power. That’s 28.6% lower PSI and 29.5% lower GPM from the Max ratings. If you assumed the PSI Max and GPM Max ratings matched up with other competitors, the performance difference would be disappointing.

The potential for these Max* numbers to be misleading triggered changes based on Better Business Bureau findings.

The Bottom Line

The main point in all of this is that if you’re seeing pressure washer PSI numbers that seem too good to be true for the price, it probably is. Going with a PWMA-certified pressure washer carries with it the confidence that the ratings the unit claims are what you can expect to get when you’re pressure cleaning.

A pressure washer is a pressure washer, right? Hardly. There’s a wide range of choices with different PSI ratings, motors, and more. Choosing the best pressure washer for your specific needs opens up a mind-numbing number of models. Our team did the homework to help you sort through the options.

Best Pressure Washers for 2022

Best Gas Pressure Washer Overall

Simpson SuperPro Roll Cage Pressure Washers

Simpson SuperPro Roll Cage Pressure Washer | Best Gas Pressure Washer

In our book, the best gas pressure washer isn’t just one model—it’s the Simpson SuperPro Roll-Cage series. We love the 4-wheel design, the heavy-duty roll cage frame design, and that they’re made in the USA with global materials. Whether you’re rolling it in and out of your shop or loading and unloading from a trailer, it’s easier to move than traditional 2-wheel designs.

We prefer the Honda-powered models, and there are also Kohler and CRX engine options. Pressure ratings range from 3000 to 7000 PSI with flow ratings from 2.5 to 8.0 GPM. If you use pressure washers professionally, you’re sure to find a PSI/GPM combination that works for you.

Price: $899.99 – $5999.99

Best Electric Pressure Washer Overall

Greenworks 3000 PSI 2.0 GPM Electric Pressure Washer GPW3000

Best Electric Pressure Washer | Greenworks 3000 PSI Brushless Pressure Washer

With a monster 3000 PSI and 2.0 GPM (1.1 GPM @ 3000 PSI certified by PWMA), the Greenworks 5110502VT is the most powerful electric pressure washer. Adding to its list of accolades, it earns our pick as the best electric pressure washer of the year. It takes advantage of a brushless motor and what Greenworks calls “JettFlow” technology to achieve higher performance on the PSI side than their competitors. Most electric models top out around 2400 PSI, or they market PSI max to make it look like you’re getting better performance than you really are. Greenworks isn’t playing that game and uses PWMA-certified ratings.

Class-leading performance doesn’t come cheap, though. At nearly $400, it’s expensive for an electric pressure washer. However, if you want the strongest cleaning without a gas engine for the powerplant, this is it.

Price: $399.00

Best Battery-Powered Pressure Washer

Ryobi HP Brushless Whisper Series 1500 PSI 1.1 GPM Pressure Washer

We have finally reached a place where lithium-ion is powering a pressure washer. The Ryobi 40V HP Brushless model is the best battery-powered pressure washer in what currently remains a very narrow field of competition.

Packing 1500 PSI and 1.2 GPM of cleaning power in Boost Mode, it runs on a single Ryobi 40V battery and has a second active battery port. For the best performance, use two batteries with at least 4.0Ah capacity.

One nice feature is that you don’t need a pressurized water source. Drop the siphon hose in the pool or lake and clean to your heart’s content. Since it’s part of Ryobi’s Whisper Series, it runs quiet enough to avoid disturbing your neighbors.

Price: $499.00 with two 6.0Ah batteries and charger

Best Heavy-Duty Commercial Pressure Washer

Simpson PowerShot 4400 PSI 4.0 GPM Gas Pressure Washer PS60843

Best Commercial Pressure Washer | Simpson PS60843

It’s tough to beat the power and price of Simpson’s PowerShot PS60843 as the best commercial pressure washer. With 4400 PSI and 4.0 GPM, it has all the power most professionals need before moving up to pull-behind pressure washers. At this price, you get a 420cc Simpson OEM engine (rather than a Honda) coupled to a tried-and-true AAA triplex plunger pump.

Price: $899.00

Best Pressure Washer for Home Use

Ryobi 2300 PSI 1.2 GPM High-Performance Electric Pressure Washer with Surface Cleaner RY142300-SC

Best Pressure Washer for Home Use | Ryobi 2300 PSI 1.2 GPM High-Performance Electric Pressure Washer with Surface Cleaner RY142300-SC

The two most common uses we see for a residential pressure washer involve cleaning concrete and exterior walls. There are a lot of other tasks such as cleaning RVs, boats, decks, fences, screens, and much more. In general, the more power, the better. However, most homeowners won’t typically need much more than 2000 PSI and 1.2 GPM to effectively get the job done while avoiding professional-level prices.

For occasional use, we recommend an electric pressure washer with a brushless motor. You don’t have to worry about the maintenance of a gas engine and the brushless motor has a longer life than brushed. Our top pick is the Ryobi RY142300 for a couple of reasons. First, its PWMI-certified 2300 PSI and 1.2 GPM are right in the wheelhouse for what homeowners need. Secondly, there’s an optional surface cleaner kit for just $14 more that can literally save you hours the next time you pressure wash your driveway.

Price: $313.00 ($299.99 without the surface cleaner)

Best Pressure Washer for Cars

Simpson PS3228 3300 PSI 2.5 GPM Gas Pressure Washer

Best Pressure Washer for Cars | Simpson PS3228

Our recommendation for the best pressure washer for cars comes with a major asterisk: *don’t pressure wash your car! Most pressure washers have enough power to damage the finish and even dig into the paint. Use your pressure washer with a soap nozzle ONLY to apply soap and to rinse the vehicle. Stick to elbow grease and a soft cloth for the actual cleaning.

We prefer to pair a pressure washer with a foam cannon and we’re partial to the Chemical Guys’ Big Mouth Max Release Foam Cannon. While most foam cannons work with a wide range, we seem to get the best results with at least 3000 PSI and 2.0 GPM. 3500 PSI is about the top of the pressure range, putting a lot of the big commercial models out of the picture.

And just to reiterate a second time—don’t pressure wash your car!

If you use a pressure washer professionally for car detailing, you need a model that can stand up to daily use. That’s why we chose the Simpson PS3228 as our best pressure washer for cars. Its AAA triplex pump and Honda GX200 engine are in it for the long haul.

For performance, the 3300 PSI and 2.5 GPM numbers hit what we need to get the thickest foam from our cannons. It’s also much less expensive than other professional options in the same performance range.

Price: $599.00

What About Electric Pressure Washers for Cars?

If all you want to do is apply soap without creating that thick layer of foam, electric pressure washers work fine. However, even the most powerful fall short of the 2.0 GPM minimum we like to see for a foam cannon.

If you simply want to get the car soapy and wet and take off some dirt from the tires, cordless power cleaners provide a nice option and involve much less setup. This tool, along with some elbow grease, works for homeowners looking to wash their cars regularly.

Best Portable Pressure Washer

Ryobi RY141820VNM 1800 PSI 1.2 GPM Electric Pressure Washer

Best Portable Pressure Washer | Ryobi RY141820VNM

“Portable” can be relative when you’re looking for the best portable pressure washer. We consider these to be models with less than 2000 PSI with a size and weight small enough to carry by hand.

They’re ideal for spot cleaning jobs. You can also easily toss them into the back of your vehicle when you need to give your family or friends a hand on some spring cleaning.

Ryobi’s RY141820VNM electric pressure washer defines “compact” with a small footprint that’s super-easy to manage. Despite its small size, it still packs 1800 PSI and 1.2 GPM, making it deceptively powerful.

Price: $129.00

Best Pressure Washer for Driveways and Concrete

Simpson SuperPro Roll Cage 3600 PSI 2.5 GPM Gas Pressure Washer

Best Pressure Washer for Driveways and Concrete | Simpson SuperPro Roll Cage 3600 PSI 2.5 GPM Gas Pressure Washer

The best pressure washer for concrete and driveways is partly about combining mid-to high-level PSI with excellent flow rates. As a professional, if you can score one that’s easy to roll on and off the trailer multiple times a day, you’re in business!

Simpson accomplishes that with the SuperPro Roll Cage series. Our top choice is powered by a solid Honda GX200 engine and uses a AAA triplex pump to deliver 3600 PSI and 2.5 GPM. Paired with a surface cleaner, you can move through multiple concrete jobs in a day. It’s also easier on your business’ budget than some of the highest-performing models in the line.

Best Pressure Washer for Stripping Paint

Simpson PowerShot 4400 PSI 4.0 GPM Gas Pressure Washer PS60843

Best Pressure Washer for Stripping Paint | Simpson PS60843

When you turn to the best pressure washer for stripping paint, you’re usually in the graffiti removal business. Pressure washers aren’t smart: they can’t tell the difference between the paint you want to remove and what you want to leave behind. For that reason, these machines are best for removing paint from bare concrete or metal where the finish behind isn’t as critical. Of course, you can always come back and paint over it.

When it comes to removing paint, we want at least 4,000 PSI working for us. Since this job usually falls on professionals, we also prefer a commercial solution.

With 4400 PSI and 4.0 GPM coming from its Simpson 420cc engine and AAA triplex pump, the Simpson PowerShot PS60843 is our pick as the best pressure washer for stripping paint. It has a commercial level build quality but at a surprisingly reachable price. At $899, it’s also several hundred dollars less than a lot of its competition at the same performance level.

Best Pressure Washer for the Money

Simpson Pressure Washers

Best Pressure Washer for the Money | Simpson Pressure Washers

In our opinion, no other brand offers the kind of value we see across the board from Simpson. They consistently deliver pressure washers with higher quality parts for the price we’re looking at. It’s not uncommon to get a Honda engine at the same price or lower than other brands charge for an OEM engine. They also seem to have a solution for every application (one of the reasons why they appear so many times in our list).

Best Pressure Washer Surface Cleaner

Simpson 20-Inch Industrial Surface Cleaner

Want to make your neighbor jealous? Wait until they’re pressure washing their driveway with a 25º nozzle. Give them a 30-minute head start and then hit yours with a surface cleaner. You’ll be cracking open a beer with your feet on the coffee table way before they’re done.

A surface cleaner takes the work from your pressure washer and directs it into a spinning nozzle that cleans a wide area. Each one has a PSI rating that you need to pay attention to and not overpower. For the easiest cleaning on larger models, look for one that has casters.

We like Simpson’s larger 20-inch diameter and solid build to make quick work of large jobs. It works best with higher PSI pressure washers with the build quality to match. The downside? It’s quite a bit more expensive than homeowner models, such as Simpson’s $79.99 15-inch surface cleaner.

Best Pressure Washer Soap and Detergents

Even though most pressure washers inject soap and detergent after the pump, nearly all of them come with the same warning: never use bleach.

Instead, look for products that are specifically made for pressure washers. You’ll extend the life of your accessories and connectors, and get your cleaning done faster than with water alone.

Best Vinyl Siding Cleaner for Pressure Washers

When those siding covered walls aren’t looking as good as they should, the best vinyl siding cleaner for pressure washers is Simple Green’s Oxy Solve House and Siding Cleaner.

It’s pre-concentrated for pressure washers and is non-toxic and biodegradable. Using peroxide in the mix, it brings back colors without using bleach. We like the environmentally-friendly mix here, and it seems to work as well as other options that aren’t.

Best Car Soap for Pressure Washers

When it comes to car cleaning, we trust the Chemical Guys and recommend their Maxi Suds II High Foam formula as the best car soap for pressure washers. It foams up better than most to cut through the dirt and grease you collect. As it lifts them off of the surface, you can easily wipe them away without leaving scratches and swirls on your finish.

Pressure Washer Buying Guide

Pressure Washer vs Power Washer: Aren’t They the Same?

We find pressure washers and power washers to be very similar, and you’ll see them with similar PSI/GPM ratings. There’s one major difference, though—power washers have a heating element and pressure washers don’t.

That makes power washers better for cleaning stuck-on messes such as oils and greases. They’re also more expensive and require more maintenance, which is why many Pros and homeowners opt to use a pressure washer with a chemical detergent instead.

PSI vs GPM

Every pressure washer and power washer comes with two numbers: a PSI rating and a GPM rating. PSI, or pressure (pounds per square inch), is usually what gets the most attention, but they’re both important.

PSI tells you the maximum force the water is going to hit your surface with. Higher pressure means more cleaning force. You’ll get the most pressure from your 0º tip and it reduces (or disperses) as you move to your wider angle tips.

GPM (gallons per minute) is a measure of the maximum water flow. More water flow means more water is hitting the surface. This removes material more quickly. Some models have a flow control valve on the pump if you want to reduce water flow.

Calculating a Pressure Washer’s Power

One way to compare one pressure washer’s power to another is simply to multiply the two values together. Here’s an example:

PressureFlowCleaning Power
Model A3000 PSI2.2 GPM6,600
Model B3100 PSI2.1 GPM6,510
Model C2800 PSI2.3 GPM6,440
PSI x GPM = Cleaning Power

Even though Model A didn’t have the highest PSI or GPM rating, it actually has the most overall cleaning power.

How Much Pressure Washer Power Do You Need?

There are several general classes we consider when it comes to pressure washer power. What level you need is based on what you’re hoping to do with it. Keep in mind, you can always use a wider nozzle to reduce the pressure and clean faster, but you can’t make an underpowered pressure washer do more.

Under 500 PSI

  • Washing vehicles
  • Patio furniture (including wicker)
  • Screens

Under 2000 PSI

  • Shutters
  • Grills
  • Patio/lawn furniture
  • Screens
  • Lighter mildew/mold
  • Limited cleaning on concrete/asphalt

2000 – 3000 PSI

  • Fences
  • Pavement
  • Concrete (driveways and sidewalks)
  • Cleaning with smaller surface cleaner attachments
  • Siding
  • Stains
  • Lighter mildew/mold

3000 – 4000 PSI

  • Concrete (driveways and sidewalks)
  • Cleaning with larger surface cleaner attachments
  • Pavement
  • Siding
  • Fences
  • Decks
  • Deeper stains
  • Mildew/mold
  • Paint prep
  • Paint stripping/graffiti removal (at the top of the range)

4000+ PSI

  • Paint stripping/graffiti removal

  • Cleaning with the largest surface cleaner attachments
  • Pavement
  • Siding
  • Fences
  • Decks
  • Deeper stains
  • Mildew/mold

Gas, Electric, or Battery?

As you consider what kind of power plant you want on your pressure washer, there are some significant trade-offs.

Electric pressure washers are ideal for homeowners thanks to their low maintenance designs. They also run quieter and with fewer emissions. The downside is that they’re limited on power and water flow—the very things you need to get the job done quickly and efficiently.

If you’re buying an electric pressure washer, consider one that has GFCI built-in. If you decide on one that doesn’t have this feature, make sure you plug into an outlet that does.

Gas pressure washers are loud, require more maintenance, and have gas emissions. But electric motors don’t have anything on the pressure and water flow you get from a gas engine. In fact, electric pressure washers pretty much tap out by the mid-2000 PSI range. Much more and you’ll need a 240V plug.

Then there’s battery power. Currently, Greenworks has the only battery-powered pressure washer on the market with legitimate pressure, though there are a few pressure washers in the 300–450 PSI range. The sacrifice here is primarily run-time.

When you look at what the battery-powered industry is doing with gas engine replacements on ZTR’s or Milwaukee’s MX Fuel system, if electric options have a shot to compete with gas, it’s going to be using a battery for power instead of a wall outlet.

Commercial or Residential?

While there are a few electric pressure washers that are labelled “commercial”, they still fall well short of the pressure and water flow professionals need on a daily basis.

Instead, we’re really talking about the difference between commercial and residential gas pressure washers. It boils down to two major components: the engine and the pump.

Commercial pressure washers use commercial grade engines, such as the Honda GX series. Residential models use lighter-duty engines. The Honda GC series is a good example.

The other piece of the puzzle is the pump. The best pressure washer pump is a triplex pump on pressure washers for professional use and an axial cam pump on residential models. Many residential electric models use an integrated pump, but we prefer a separate axial cam design.

If you’re on the commercial side, consider an engine with EFI—electronic fuel injection. It’ll give you easier starting and better fuel economy.

Buyer Beware: PSI Max*

There are pressure washers on the market, primarily from the Snow Joe brand, Sun Joe, that uses “PSI Max” in their boldest product packaging and product webpages. Unfortunately, it’s completely misleading when you’re trying to compare pressure washers in an apples-to-apples fashion.

Somewhere in smaller print, you’ll find the “working pressure” or “rated pressure”. And it’s significantly less.

Take for example Sun Joe’s 3000 PSI Max/1.30 GPM system. It’s amazingly high power for an electric model, right? It sounds like it, but the actual working specs are 2300 PSI and 1.1 GPM. That “Max” pressure is more than 30% higher than its actual working pressure.

The rationale is that the pressure washer really does hit those numbers momentarily, and it’s important for consumers to know to avoid damage or injury.

Pressure Washer Nozzles

Every pressure washer needs a set of nozzles, a hose, and a wand. Most use a standard quick connector, making a replacement pretty easy to acquire if you need it.

A lot of pressure washers come with 0º, 15º, 25º, 40º, and soap nozzles, though some may come with one or two less. That grouping covers the vast majority of applications you’ll come across. They’re color-coded and most models have a key on the frame you can reference. Even if it doesn’t, the angle is marked on the nozzle itself.

Nozzles are pretty inexpensive if you need to replace them. However, they have a PSI rating. Make sure you don’t buy one rated for less than what your pressure washer delivers. Most are a 1/4-inch QC (quick connect) and are compatible with the majority of pressure washer wand connections.

Pressure Washer Hoses

The hose that comes with your pressure washer is going to be paired intentionally by the manufacturer. Like the nozzles, they’re rated for a particular PSI. When looking for a replacement, use that rating as a guide and get as close as you can to what your model has.

You don’t want to put more pressure through a hose than it’s rated for. On the other hand, getting a hose that’s rated for a lot more pressure than your pressure washer produces can reduce your performance, especially if you move up in diameter.

When in doubt, check your manual to see what hose diameter and length are appropriate for your exact model.

Pressure Washer Wands

Pressure washer wands are probably the most vulnerable part of the entire system. Because they are tubes by nature and need to be light enough to effectively use, they’re also prone to bending, pinching, or flat-out breaking off if they get stepped on.

The best way to avoid damage is to hang the wand off the ground when you’re not using it and try to avoid leaning it against the wall or trailer.

Sooner or later, you’re going to need a replacement, though. Like the other accessories we’ve been discussing, they have a PSI rating to them. Stick with the same diameter tube and quick connect nozzles (most are a 1/4-inch tube with 1/4-inch QC), and you should be good to go.

The last thing to look for is the connection to your spray gun—the threads need to match. Most are M22 connections and you can always double-check your manual to be sure.

On a Well for Your Water Supply?

Most pressure washers need a pressurized water supply, even though the pump and the engine take it to another level. Water coming from well pumps often doesn’t have enough pressure and might not work with some pressure washers. Double-check the manual to be sure, and email the manufacturer if it’s not clear.
