The Greenworks 24V Cordless Jigsaw Offers A Good Balance Of Performance And Value
Any woodworking Pro or serious hobbyist will tell you that a dependable jigsaw is a must-have. We got our hands on the Greenworks 24V Cordless Jigsaw to run it through some tests and see if it would make the cut.
Greenworks 24V Cordless Jigsaw Performance
Cut Speed
Top handle (or D-handle) jigsaws tend to include either a variable speed trigger or a single-speed trigger with a speed selection dial. The Greenworks 24V jigsaw goes with a variable speed trigger that lets the brushless motor push the blade up to 3,000 strokes per minute.
Personally, that’s the style that I prefer because I love the ability to feather the trigger while making cuts. One thing we’re missing on this jigsaw is a lock-on switch to allow you to give your finger a break and give your hands a little freedom to work in multiple positions.
Orbital Action
The orbital dial on this jigsaw has 4 stops (0-3). This gives you the option to cut faster, though with a rougher finish. Set to 0, the blade moves straight up and down. With a fine-toothed blade, it cut smoothly through 3/4-inch plywood and left a nice clean finish on the top with minimal tear-out. Set to 3, the saw moved quickly through the same material but left a wave of chips and tears in its wake.
Blade Changes
Blade changes are pretty straightforward, however, they do require two hands. Just use your thumb and index finger to rotate the twist-lock collet and insert a fresh blade.
Bevel Adjustments
Greenworks makes it pretty easy to adjust the bevel on this jigsaw. Push the bevel adjustment lever out to the side and pivot the shoe to your desired angle. Greenworks included detents at 45°, 30°, and 15° in both directions.
Greenworks 24V Cordless Jigsaw Design Notes
Size and Weight
Compared to similar D-handle jigsaws, this one is slightly on the heavier side. Bare, it weighs 4.8 pounds and when you add the 2Ah battery it jumps to 5.8 pounds. However, when using the protective shoe cover, the saw .
Ergonomics
The overall ergonomics of this top-handle jigsaw are spot on. It’s draped in a textured rubber overmold and has a few ridges on the front to help maintain a controlled grip during two-handed operation.
Non-Maring Shoe
The solid die-cast metal base is covered with a nice non-marring shoe which helped the saw easily glide over the material. It avoided scuffing and scratching the surface of the wood as it moved through the cut. This is great because I tend to draw my cut lines on the finished side of the wood.
Editor’s Note: When working with fine finishes, apply some painters tape to the shoe to avoid scuffing the sanded surface when cutting.
Additional Features
- Integrated vacuum attachment
- Adjustable cut guide
Greenworks 24V Cordless Jigsaw Price
This Jigsaw retails for $89.99 as a bare tool and $99.99 as a kit with a 2Ah battery and charger. From time to time we do see discounted prices on Amazon so be on the lookout for those. No matter which option you choose, Greenworks backs this jigsaw with a 3-year limited warranty.
The Bottom Line
From our observation, it’s clear that Greenworks has a good thing going on with their 24V lineup. This 24V Cordless Jigsaw nailed the key features we expect to see. With that said, it does lack a few of the top-of-the-line features we see on more premium models, but these omissions aren’t a big deal in our book.
