Ryobi 4V Power Carver Prioritizes Portability
Ryobi is really upping their game when it comes to making tools for hobbyists and crafters. It’s now branching out into tools that require less power but are still strong enough to get the job done. We’ve talked about Ryobi USB Lithium battery-powered tools before, but this time we’re going more in-depth on one tool in particular. We got our hands on the Ryobi 4V power carver kit to see what it had to offer in terms of design and usability.
Ryobi 4V Power Carver: The Big Deal
Ryobi tells us that the 4V FVH51K kit is the industry’s first cordless power carver. Instead of using the ONE+ line to operate this tool, Ryobi decided to allow for more convenience and portability by giving the power carver a cordless, portable design. While tools like the Ryobi brushless rotary tool are technically cordless, they are tethered to their battery packs. This limits their mobility.
By designing the 4V power carver with a USB Lithium battery (similar to Milwaukee RedLithium USB), Ryobi allows a more manageable level of portability and control. These Lithium batteries charge directly via a USB-C cable included with the kit.
Ryobi also includes three accessories with the 4V power carver. You get a straight chisel, a U-gouge, and a V-gouge. To change your chisel, just loosen the tool’s clamp nut located on the head, insert your desired chisel or gouge, and re-tighten the clamp nut. It includes a wrench to make it convenient for you to quickly change out bits.
Additional Features

Our Thoughts
For hobbyists, this tool looks like a real win. You get better portability and more freedom of movement when working. It also extends your ability to work for those whose older hands might not be as well-suited for carving as they were in their younger days.
We really like the direction of the 4V USB line of tools. We first saw it with Ryobi Tek4 many years ago. While that line dropped off the map, these new products seem to have a much better focus on the crafting community.
