The big deal here is that Ridgid has upped the torque and impact rate which allow this tool to work quicker and more effectively than its predecessor.
Mode Selection
Another upgrade on this impact driver is the mode selection system. This lets you quickly dial in the top speed from 900 to 2,900 RPMs to match whatever material you’re working with rather than constantly feathering the trigger to adjust speed.
Pressing the rear-mounted mode selector button allows you to cycle between low, medium, high, and self-tapping modes. The self-tapping mode starts fast and then drops the speed down to 2,150 RPMs, reducing the chances of stripping fasteners or damaging your material.

Ergonomics
Much like its predecessor, this SubCompact impact driver is quite small in stature. It stands 8.75 inches tall with a 2.0Ah battery and only measures 4.75 inches from end to end. Using that same 2.0Ah battery, this impact driver weighs 2.6 pounds—slightly lighter than the previous model.
As a matter of personal preference, I tend to really enjoy the feel of Ridgid tools because they contour nicely to my medium hands. The overmold design on this model departs from the full Hex-Grip style and has a little more curve and forward angle for a more favorable grip position.
