DeWalt 2.5 Gallon Air Compressor: The Big Deal

The big deal with the DeWalt 20V Max Compact 2.5 Gallon Air Compressor is the inclusion of the FlexVolt Advantage technology.

Tools in the FlexVolt Advantage line are built to recognize FlexVolt batteries and boost the power output accordingly. You’ll still be able to use this compressor with any DeWalt 20V battery. However, you get peak performance from the compressor when using 60V FlexVolt batteries.

According to DeWalt, this peak performance looks like a max 140 PSI with lots of runtime. This lets you fire off up to 81% more nails per cycle and more than 1,100 linear feet of shoe molding per charge (with the 6.0Ah battery pack while firing 2″ brad nails at one nail per second). With the compressor set at 90 psi, it delivers 1.0 SCFM.

Despite the additional PSI, the DeWalt 20V Max Compact Air Compressor keeps relatively quiet. It registers 80 dB(A) on the operational noise scale, so it’s relatively easy on your ears when it cycles on indoors. Weighing just 21-1/2 lbs, it also moves easily from the jobsite back to the truck at the end of the day.

Other Features

  • Fast and accurate power adjustments with OneTurn Regulator
  • Brushless motor
  • Oil-free pump
  • Plastic roll-cage design

Side By Side

As we mentioned earlier, DeWalt has another very similar design on the market with the 60V FlexVolt 2.5 Gallon Air Compressor. This model requires the use of 60V FlexVolt battery packs.

The 20V Max with FlexVolt Advantage compressor opens you up to use either 20V Max or 60V FlexVolt batteries. Given that DeWalt now has 8.0Ah 20V Max batteries, you have lots of options for maximizing the potential of this tool. By design, it runs at leak performance with a FlexVolt battery.

With both models operating with a 6.0Ah battery, the specs look pretty comparable. In fact, the only real advantage that the 60V Max FlexVolt tool has over the 20V Max model comes down to runtime. DeWalt tells us that this model can fire off over 850 brad nails per charge, while the 60V Max model can tackle up to 1,220.

Pricing

The DeWalt 20V Max Compact Air Compressor with FlexVolt Advantage hits stores in September 2021. DeWalt has a couple of options for purchasing it. If you’re already flush with FlexVolt batteries, you can pick up the bare tool for $199. Or, if your sentiments are that it never hurts to have another battery, you can pick up the kit for $299. This includes a 6.0Ah battery and a charger.

Either option includes DeWalt’s 3-year warranty, 1-year free service agreement, and 90-day money-back guarantee.

Big Richard

I still think they need a cordless 10″ miter saw in the NA market. If they are not going to bring the Euro/Aus spec 60v FlexVolt DCS727 stateside, I would love to see a 20v FlexVolt Advantage model. After all this air compressor started out as a 60v FlexVolt tool before being reborn as a 20v FlexVolt Advantage.
