Hart Cordless Air Compressor Leaves Power Outlets Behind
We all know the frustration of walking out to the car early in the morning, only to find you’ve got a flat tire. What do you do? Maybe grab the spare, or chance it trying to make it to the corner gas station to fill it up? Not to sound too much like Morpheus from The Matrix, but what if I told you the 2-gallon Hart cordless air compressor is your answer to this and other DIY projects?
Check out our Best Air Compressors article for our top picks across a variety of applications and uses.
Hart 2-Gallon Cordless Air Compressor Performance
Hart’s cordless compressor produces up to 120 PSI and 0.5 SCFM at 90PSI which is great for finish nailers and other low output air tools, topping off tires, and filling small inflatables. If your tool requires continuous air output, such as HVLP paint sprayers or sanders, you’ll need a model that delivers more air.
Hart tells us this cordless air compressor can completely inflate a flat tire in under 1 minute. We assume they’re referring to an average sedan tire and not large truck or SUV tires. However, if you find yourself needing a bit more air, it fills back up (recharges) in about 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
If you’re not sure how much air you need, check the specifications for the tools you plan to use in the manual or online. 120 PSI is plenty for most applications. It’s the SCFM requirements you want to pay close attention to.
The tank is 2 gallons and that’s about the best you’ll find on cordless models. The first one we ever tested was from Ridgid and only held one gallon. The benefit to holding more air is that you can get more work done before the pump needs to start the recharge cycle.
There’s a single universal quick-connect coupler to attach a hose. Considering the output level, that’s the right call.
Hart 2-Gallon Cordless Air Compressor Design Notes
Weight and Portability
Portability is the biggest stand-out feature and the entire reason for having a cordless compressor. At just 18.25 pounds with the 4.0Ah battery, it’s easy to take along on any off-road adventure or backyard project where power isn’t an option.
Control
On the front, you’ll find two analog gauges which measure tank and line pressure as well as a pressure control knob. To set the pressure you want, just adjust the knob left for lower pressure or right for higher pressure.
Noise
The noise level isn’t bad at all on this compressor. We measured from 6 feet away and our SPL meter registered just 70 decibels (A-weighted, slow response).
Maintenance and Storage
The oil-free pump makes maintaining your compressor much easier, but there are some things you need to do. For starters, there’s a break-in period. Pop a fully charged 4.0Ah battery on, open the drain valve, and let the motor run for 30 minutes continuously (or until the battery fully drains).
Always drain the tank after you’re done for the day. Air carries moisture and gets trapped in the tank. Over time, it can start to rust the tank from the inside out. It rusts even faster in areas close to saltwater.
When you store the compressor, go ahead and make sure the switch is the the “off” position and you remove the battery.
It’s also good practice to remove the hose from the compressor and the tool from the hose.
Additional Features
- Rubber overmold handle
